This Week in Philadelphia Athelete Gun Crime

Aaron McKie tried to buy a gun despite being under a "protection-from-abuse" order. I wanted to know more about what this order means, so I checked out http://www.womenslaw.org/laws_state_type.php?id=10027&state_code=PA
This is sad because Aaron is a bit of a hero in the Philly parts - the most successful trifecta athelete (high school, college & pro) the city has had in a long long time. He was a thug who John Chaney pulled off the street and turned into a man. Details to follow, I suppose.

This makes two days in a row that former Philadelphia sports figures are arrested.
Shaq to the Suns: The Weekly Whine

The fantasy basketball world is abuzz over the two huge trades made in the last week. The Lakers snatched Pau Gasol for a song on Friday, and Miami got Shawn Marion for only a few verses and a bridge on Wednesday. What is going on here?

We've dispatched our investigative reporters deep into the darkest corridors of the Memphis and Phoenix front offices, only to discover just now, to our dismay, that we don't actually have any investigative reporters. Since we are on a deadline here, and it is after all only the internet, we'll stick to what we know: rampant speculation.

Perhaps I can use fancy verbiage and the insertion of a few links to give y'all the appearance that we are a reputable news weblog... nah. It's not like we're covering the presidential primaries. Let's just examine the trades from a fantasy perspective.

Sixers Volunteer Coach Aaron McKie Traded to Memphis

t's not every day that a coach gets traded, and it's even more rare when that coach is traded and the team he works for isn't even involved in the trade.

Gasol makes Lakers Contenders

Kobe Bryant has finally been appeased. Pau Gasol finally is receiving what he has wanted for a couple of years now. Mitch Kupchak finally looks like a genius again. And the Lakers are finally going to be taken as title contenders once again. With Pau Gasol being traded to the Lakers for a young point guard and a pack of gum, the rest of the Western Conference may be in trouble when they visit the Staples Center.
Zach Harper has the fallout of Gasol trade and Phillip Barnett weighs in.

Pauerful trade possibilities from Chris Sheridan

If you don't have Insider, Chris Sheridan breaks down 6 possible trade scenarios for the the Grizzlies' lone All-Star. He actually breaks down 9, but a few of them are completely asinine and I won't waste your time or insult your intelligence by repeating them here:

Here's a recap, in decreasing order of probablity, of the few plausible scenarios:

Bulls: Gasol for P.J. Brown (expiring contract), Ben Gordon and Knicks' first round pick (from the Curry trade)

Nets: Gasol and Chucky Atkins for Vince Carter, Marcus Williams and first round pick

Lakers: Gasol and Atkins for Kwame, Bynum, Farmar, Aaron McKie and first round pick

Celtics: Gasol for Al Jefferson, Delonte West and Theo Ratliff

Pacers: Gasol, Mike MIller and Atkins for Jermaine O'Neal and Jamaal Tinsley

I think the Nets deal is intriguing...Gasol would fit in nicely for the injured Krstic, and the two of them could be a formidable front line in the East. It would be a testament to the Nets faith in Richard Jefferson, despite his health concerns. And Carter would be able to put up 30 a game and piss off Mike Miller in the process. Everyone wins there.

'06-'07 Previews: Los Angeles Lakers

This is part of my series of articles previewing all 30 NBA teams and the upcoming season.

The Lakers are looking to build on a good season with Phil Jackson back on the bench. Their youth looks good and is growing faster than you could have expected. Andrew Bynum is looking every bit worth the draft pick and the rest of the team is growing around the core. They'll be fun to watch and see develop, but I don't know about serious West contenders... yet.

Limping Lakers

With the NBA season less than 2 weeks away, Brian Cook and Aaron McKie are the latest Lakers to show up on the injury list. It seems like almost the entire team will be limping through the starting gates this season.

Kobe Bryant has not started preseason play because of an offseason knee surgery while Chris Mihm is still out because of nagging ankle problems. Kwame Brown is sidelined at the moment with a sprained right shoulder.

Even Coach Phil Jackson is recovering right now after hip replacement surgery.
