He was 61. Niekro spent the majority of his 22 seasons with the Houston Astros, where he won 144 of his 221 career wins. His had his best year in 1979 when he totaled 21 wins, pitched five shutouts and was named a National League All-Star. He also won 20 games the following season. He and his brother Phil combined for 539 wins, making them the winningest siblings in MLB history.
