Portland Trailblazers: Why Not Sign Adam Morrison?

The Portland Trailblazers brought local hero and former Gonzaga star, Adam Morrison to training camp, but he was cut before the season. Morrison stated that if he did not make the team he would retire, but the Trailblazers would be smart to sign him to a ten day contract.
Not only would bringing him in bring interest and intrigue to the team, but he could actually help the team on the court. They have the worst bench in the NBA, with no player averaging even 5 points per game, which is incredibly pathetic. Morrison may be an awful defender, but his scoring ability has never been in doubt. Sure he was a huge bust, as the number three overall pick, but he could really help an NBA team this year and looked much improved during the Summer League. This is a no-risk move, as the Blazers will not make the playoffs and he would bring attention and money to the team and he cannot possibly be any worse than the rest of their bench has been.
This is a small move, but it makes sense on a lot...

Adam Morrison Can’t Get Spot on NBA Team, Goes Back to European Options to Prolong Basketball Career

Adam Morrison won America’s heart while playing for college basketball’s perennial Cinderella, Gonzaga. Unfortunately, he has not had the same effect on NBA general managers, and he is now without basketball-related employment.
With no NBA team in need — or want — of his services, Morrison is going back on his original statement that he would retire if he did not make the Trailblazers this season by turning his eyes back toward Europe. The former NCAA Player of the Year played in Serbia and Turkey last season after being cut by the Lakers after the 2009-10 season.
“We are looking for a good Euroleague or Eurocup situation for [Adam],” said Brad Ames of Priority Sports Management, according to Sportando. “If we don’t have anything [from Europe] over the next few weeks, Adam will consider the D-League for call-up opportunities.”
Morrison’s most productive season as a pro was his rookie year with the Bobcats. Morrison averaged 11.8 points and 2.9 rebounds in 29.8 minutes per game. He w...

Adam Morrison to retire if he doesn’t make the Blazers

Adam Morrison will look to make the roster for Portland this season.credit: http://sportsnstats.com
It doesn’t seem like that long ago that Adam Morrison was one of the faces of college basketball at Gonzaga. The number 3 overall pick in the 2006 Draft never really had much of an impact in the league, joining the many college players who struggle to find their place in the NBA.
The Portland Trail Blazers are giving Adam Morrison a chance to make the team, but nothing is guaranteed. He had an impressive summer league showing, but that won’t earn him a spot.
Sadly, it looks like his playing days may soon be over.According to the Gonzaga star, he will retire if he doesn’t make the Blazers.
“I’m going to finish school and start coaching (If he didn’t make the Trail Blazers roster)… I did the Europe thing and it just wasn’t for me,” Morrison told CSNNW.com. “Not saying the (Europe) culture or anything like that, (or) the people, it just wasn’t for me. So, yeah, if it doesn’t work out, I’m

Will a return to the Pacific Northwest rekindle Adam Morrison's career

To answer the question in my headline... no, probably not.

...... and I would love to end the piece there. Wouldn't that be great?

By now we all understand that Adam Morrison is never going to live up to "third overall pick" status. That was made pretty clear, pretty quickly. Now Morrison is looking for situations where he can become a decent role player who earns a nice little paycheck for a few more years.

So the kid who grew up in Spokane, Wash., and went to college there is going back to the Pacific Northwest for one last NBA gasp with the Portland Trail Blazers. He has been invited to their camp after some time overseas and a summer auditioning for everyone in Orlando and Las Vegas.

But Morrison goes into Portland without any real guarantee of anything. The roster is overloaded, as all are at this point, so he is fighting even to make the team beyond September.

I got a chance to see Morrison this summer while he was with the Clippers in Vegas...

Adam Morrison back in the NBA

It gives me great pleasure to say, “Welcome back, Adam… you’ve been missed although some may have forgotten.” I am not one of the latter. The question, “Where’s Adam Morrison playing these days,” has become an all too familiar query the past few years, with a new one emerging – “What’s with the new look?”
The former Gonzaga Bulldogs jump-shot machine has seen an unimpressive run relative to expectation since his introduction to the NBA in 2006. Morrison played his rookie and second seasons with the Charlotte Bobcats, which says it all if we play the team association game. But despite meager playing time during his third and fourth seasons as a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, Morrison did win rings.
“With the third pick in the 2006 NBA Draft, the Charlotte Bobcats select… Adam Morrison from Gonzaga University.”
That was a big day for the once-upon-a-time NCAA Co-Player of the Year. Some might even say the draft was the “one shining mo...

Morrison giving the NBA one last shot

Saying Adam Morrison’s basketball career peaked in college is an understatement. He was a star at Gonzaga, co-player of the year, and it earned him the third overall pick in the 2006 Draft to the Charlotte Bobcats.
Since then, it’s only been bad news. Morrison sat out the 2007-08 season with an injury then he got traded to the Los Angeles Lakers where he barely ever saw the floor while they won two NBA championships. He was released after the 2009-10 season, signed with the Washington Wizards, and was cut from their team before the next season even started. He’s been playing overseas ever since.
Now he’s back, giving it another try. Morrison is playing for the Brooklyn Nets in the Orlando Summer League, hoping to impress their coaches or the coaches or scouts of another NBA team. He clearly wants another chance to prove himself.
"I like playing the game," said Morrison. "I still have a love for the game. And that's why I'm still coming out here every day do...

That's Adam Morrison? The guy who was kicked out of a game in Serbia a few months ago? Heyyyy buddy.... looking great. Hope the workout, ummmm, works out for you. I'm sure the folks at Head & Shoulders are dying to find an NBA guy. This could be the start of something big.

NBA Free Agency Unkind To Adam Morrison. Spain, Italy Next Options?

Believe it or not, but Adam Morrison had a good thing going for Red Star Belgrade in Serbia before deciding to leave the team in late November to test the NBA free agency waters.
He should have stayed put.
Before Morrison was let out of his contract in a “good faith” gesture by Red Star Belgrade, he averaged 15.5 points per game and was regaining both form and confidence in his ability to gun for a comeback in the league. There’s no doubt at that point in his two-month overseas career his stock climbed since last being cut by the Washington Wizards in November before the start of the 2010-2011 season.
Unfortunately for Morrison, the NBA comeback tour has stopped short of it’s destination for the former 3rd overall pick out of Gonzaga in the 2006 NBA Draft.
While his agent Mark Bartelstein maintained there was interest in a number of teams around the league, the 6-foot-8 small forward failed to secure a training camp invite and now appears he may have to return to playing in Euro...

Adam Morrison’s Revival in Serbia

Once left for dead, Adam Morrison’s basketball career is being slowly resurrected in Serbia, of all places. From SI: “The 27-year-old who went from cult hero in college to purported NBA bust describes the inauspicious start in Charlotte, from the pressure of being the No. 3 pick in 2006 to the devastating knee injury that cost him a season, and how the hopeful return went awry with his unproductive pairing with coach Larry Brown.
