Mavs making run at Dwight & CP3?

This is unlikely to happen, but if the you are the Mavericks you have to at least give it a shot. Stranger things have happened, but to get the necessary cap room to fit both Dwight Howard and Chris Paul on their roster, they have to make some moves in advance. Multiple sources have told ESPN.com’s Chad Ford the Mavs are likely to shop the pick in hopes of creating the cap space necessary to make a run at [Howard] in free agency. The 13th overall pick has a cap hold of $1,655,300. … The hope is to sell Howard or Chris Paul — who would each have to sacrifice a fifth year on the max contract that he could get from the Lakers and Clippers, respectively — on the possibility of building a championship contender. “We’d love to get one of the main guys,” Nowitzki said last week. I still believe the best bet is on CP3 going elsewhere, I don’t think Dwight will leave $30 million and the LA spotlight on the table.

Can Knicks general manager Glen Grunwald lure Chris Paul to New York for less money?

Clippers general manager Gary Sacks is negotiating with free agent Chris Paul and the executive remains “very confident” that the elite point guard will return to Los Angeles. Shipped to Tinseltown from the Minnesota Timberwolves in December 2011, Paul can ink a five-year extension worth $108 million with the Clippers starting on July 1. A six-time All-Star and two-time All-NBA First Team selection, the 28-year-old Paul and Blake Griffin led Los Angeles to a 56-26 record in the Western Conference Pacific Division. Unfortunately for Paul and Griffin, the Clippers were quickly ousted by the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round … Continue reading →

Was Chris Paul allowed to fire Vinny Del Negro?

Vinny Del Negro led the Los Angeles Clippers to a strong season by anyone’s standards, let alone what the franchise has traditionally become accustomed to.
Still, it was all but a foregone conclusion that their coach Vinny Del Negro was a dead man walking by the end of the season.
The rumors of superstar players such as Blake Griffin and Chris Paul disliking Paul had grown to hot.

Donald Sterling basically admits that Del Negro firing was to appease Chris Paul

This might be the most shocking development of the NBA season. Donald Sterling made a decision to actually keep a high-priced free agent as a member of the Los Angeles Clippers. According to T.J. Simers at the LA Times, Sterling was reluctant to fire head coach Vinny Del Negro, but knew that it was something he had to do in order to keep point guard Chris Paul as apart of the organization: “The coach is a wonderful man, and I’m sad about the whole thing,” Sterling said. “Was this done,” I asked, “just to hang on to Chris Paul?” “I always want to be honest and not say anything that is not true,” Sterling said. “So I’d rather not say anything. But you know, the coach did a really good job. I think he did. And I liked working with him. There are just factors that make life very complicated and very challenging.” While not a direct answer to Simers’ question, he pretty much admitted that the reason was to keep CP3 around as he heads into free agency this summer. Sterling has to re-sign h

Chris Paul reportedly wanted a different coach for Clippers

The Los Angeles Clippers decided not to bring back Vinny Del Negro as their head coach, and the upcoming free agency situation with Chris Paul may have a lot to do with it.
Paul, who completed his second season with the Clippers and finished fourth in league MVP voting, will be a free agent this summer. He reportedly supported a coaching change.
Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Paul “wanted a new coach.”
CBS Sports’ Ken Berger says Paul “was not a fan” of Del Negro.
The Los Angeles Times’ Broderick Turner says Paul and Blake Griffin liked Del Negro personally but had doubts about his ability to lead the team to a championship.
It seems like the reports were pretty strong across the board that CP3 supported a change.
Even though the Clippers were highly successful in December and won all their game that month as part of a franchise-record 17-game winning streak, they lost in the first-round of the playoffs. It’s likely that a better coach would be able to get more fro...

Report: Dwight Howard & Chris Paul Considering Superfriend Option With Hawks

Take these reports with a grain of salt. No one knows for sure what Chris Paul or Dwight Howard are going to do. I am going to assume CP3 has a better grasp of what he is going to do than Howard. I think the likelihood of them teaming up is remote, but you are going to hear about it from time to time.
This particular time comes from NBA Writer Mark Heisler. Here are his thoughts on the possibility of the Dwight and CP3 landing on the Atlanta Hawks.
A league source says Paul will check out other teams, as Howard is expected to do. If Paul leaves, it could pose a problem for the Lakers, who had enough already, if he and Dwight Howard decide to create a new option, joining up in Atlanta. Howard and Paul are pals. The Hawks can open up two maximum slots. They mused about Atlanta (D12’s from there, CP3 from North Carolina) years ago, before fate led them in other directions.
You will probably hear the same thing about the Mavericks shortly. It is still more likely both Howard and CP3 re-sign with their respectiv

LeBron James And Chris Paul Give Sagely Advice To James Harden And Steph Curry

Before LeBron James and Chris Paul jetted off to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, they conducted a basketball camp for college stars, many of whom would go on to play the NBA. Two players in attendance were Steph Curry (Davidson) and James Harden (Arizona State), who clearly absorbed every word of superstar advice handed out, as they’ve turned into legit stars (if not borderline superstars) early in their pro careers.
Added bonus: a smiling Hasheem Thabeet, who loads all of LeBron’s words of wisdom into one ear, and fires it out the other.

Risks involved regarding signing of Howard, Paul

LOS ANGELES Plenty of teams would envy them this.

Plenty of good teams.

Plenty of teams that made it past the first round of the playoffs this spring, even.

This, of course, being Chris Paul and Dwight Howard and the Clippers and Lakers waiting games, respectively.

Dont get me wrong, having the best chance to sign Paul and Howard is hardly a bad thing for the two Los Angeles NBA franchises. Its just complicated, and perhaps not unequivocally good.

It certainly wont be easy.

Remember a few weeks ago, when it was all Paul and Howard and contracts, all max money and championships and recruiting these high-priced, high-reward teammates? Remember that? It hasnt been so long, but the talk has quieted silenced, actually. Its hardly a surprise, though, not after both players expressed a desire to take their time and weigh their options.

Its funny, the way this works. The Lakers and the Clippers were in the playoffs, and thus in the spotlight, and so the talk of bringing back their big names was incessant. T

Source: 'Zero Chance' Chris Paul Bypasses Extra Guaranteed Year

Chris Paul has yet to commit to re-signing with the Los Angeles Clippers, but it is considered a probable outcome.
One source said that there are "too many positives" for Paul to remain with the Clippers.
Another source predicted that there's "zero chance" of Paul giving up the fifth year and nearly $30 million in additional guaranteed money.
The Clippers need to improve their roster in order to become a legitimate title contender, and Paul could potentially force his way out via trade after signing a new deal should the pieces not come together.

Clippers focused on bringing back CP3

After Chris Paul was ejected from Game Six in the Los Angeles Clippers’ first round series against the Memphis Grizzlies, some wondered if that was going to be the last image of Paul in a Clipper uniform. Paul has the option of signing a five-year, $107 million extension with the team this summer or he can test out free agency and see where he ends up. If he decides to explore the open market, you can bet he is going to be one of the most highly coveted players this offseason. The Clippers, meanwhile, are going to do whatever they can to make sure Paul stays in L.A. Gary Sacks, the Clippers’ vice president of basketball operations, met with CP3 on Saturday. "The No. 1 priority for us right now has to be re-signing our star player, Chris Paul," Sacks said. "That's our goal, that's what we want to do. We want to put ourselves in a position to do that. We feel this organization is in a position to move forward with that goal in mind. It's always diff...

Here it is, in all its glory: The season that was in NBA flopping (video)

Ever since Vlade Divac first began throwing his large, hairy, Yugoslavian body to the court in the late 1980s, flopping has more and more developed into a sad yet integral part of the NBA game. Since then, players have elevated the move and the flop has evolved from a cheap way to get a foul called on an opponent into something of an art form, graceful in its clumsiness, almost theatrical in its intentional ham-handedness. This season, the NBA attempted to bring the hammer down on the worst violators and the most egregious offenses in the name of the Art of the Flop, imposing a new set of laws that at first warned players for initial violations but ultimately fined those who continued to run afoul of the new rules.
