1994 NBA Draft Remix

by Jeff Fox
This draft class shoulda coulda been so much more. Glenn “Big Dog” Robinson was one of the greatest players to ever play for Purdue, a scoring and rebounding machine. Jason Kidd was schooling NBA stars on the regular back when he was still in high school. And Grant Hill was going to be “The Next Jordan.” Add to the mix college standouts such as Donyell Marshall and Juwan Howard and the 1994 draft class looked like it was going to be something special.

A Look at Each NBA Franchise's Leader in Three Pointers Made

While I took a break from studying I typed "The NBA moves the three point line in and then back" into a Google search.
The second option was, "Can you name the all-time three point shooters for each of the 30 NBA teams."
I was confident that I would do well. At first I couldn't understand why none of the names I was putting in would go with the respective teams.
In actuality I was just not guessing the right players, so I decided to try again. Eventually I just just we...

Q Ball

Four times in two months. It could be the number of games the Mets have won. But let’s be real; four is the number of times Quentin Richardson has been dealt this off-season. He’s traveled from NY to Memphis to L.A. to Minny and finally to South Beach. Through his 10-years in the L, Q’s game has evolved from that of a young scorer to being a savvy vet who tries to help his team any way possible. The last few years, on a slew of horrible Knicks teams, Q was the locker room vet whose voice was ...

KICKS 5: Illunatics

Let’s recap what we’ve seen so far. KG was on the cover of KICKS 1; that’s held up well over time. Iverson was on KICKS 2; that was and is a perfect score. Both KICKS 3 and 4 were covered by Kobe Bryant; so that was money. Looking back, yeah, we batted 1000 over the first four versions of KICKS. And then KICKS 5 came along and ruined that. Don’t get me wrong, the Jordan XVIII’s were hot. The issue with this issue is the two dudes on the cover: Quentin Richardso...

SLAM #57

Flip on League Pass, and what do you see? Michael Jordan is lighting up the League while playing for a lousy team, the Lakers are demolishing everyone in sight, and the Knicks are looking Lottery-bound*. Heck, Michael Jackson even has a new record out. What year is this anyway, 1985?
It might as well be. Showtime is back in Los Angeles, and no, we’re not just talking about The Kobe and Shaq Show. We’re talking about the Clippers, gosh darn it, and we’re going to keep talking about them. With ...

Rockets re-sign veteran center Mutombo

Mutombo, who supplants 39-year-old Sam Cassell as the league's oldest active player, appeared in 39 games for Houston last season, logging most of his minutes after Yao broke his left foot in February. Mutombo averaged five rebounds, three points and 1.2 blocks.

He became a free agent after last season and contemplated retirement before deciding to come back for an 18th season.

The Rockets dropped to 20-12 on Monday after an embarrassing 89-87 loss to Washington. Nearly every player on the Houston roster has missed games due to injury this season and Yao has sat out at least 25 games because of injuries over the past three seasons.

Mutombo started 25 games last season, mostly after Yao broke his foot, and averaged 16 minutes per game. The Rockets traded Steve Francis to Memphis on Christmas Eve, creating salary space to add Mutombo, the NBA's second career shot blocker behind Hakeem Olajuwon.

The Rockets play Milwaukee on Wednesday and Mutombo is expected to join the team, though it's not known when he'll start playing again.

The 7-foot-2 Mutombo has played for six NBA teams -- Denver, Atlanta, Philadelphia, New Jersey, New York and Houston. He was traded from the Knicks to the Rockets on Sept. 8, 2004, for Adrian Griffin, Eric Piatkowski and Mike Wilks and averaged four points, 5.3 rebounds and 1.3 blocks in the 2004-05 season.

Mutombo's teams have made the playoffs in 13 of his 17 seasons in the league, including three of his previous four with the Rockets. He averaged 14 points and 14 rebounds to help the Sixers reach the NBA Finals in 2001.

The Rockets have lost six straight playoff series and haven't advanced to the second round since 1997.

Team Preview #7: Phoenix Suns

LAST SEASON

The Suns made a bold move before the trade deadline by acquiring Shaquille O'Neal, but they still couldn't get past San Antonio in the playoffs. Once again, D'Antoni's squad was a hotbed for fantasy statistics, as the Suns finished 3rd in scoring, 4th in pace factor, 1st in FG%, 4th in FT%, 4th in made threes, 1st in assists, and 2nd in blocks.

OFFSEASON MOVES

Key Additions: Matt Barnes, Robin Lopez

Key Losses: Gordan Giricek, Eric Piatkowski, Sean Mark...
