Many including myself, wanted the Mets to pick-up Will Ohman for several years. Ken Gurnick has the details."The Dodgers signed free-agent left-handed reliever Will Ohman to a one-year Minor League contract plus a one-year option, the club announced Monday.The deal calls for Ohman to receive $1.35 million plus appearance incentives in 2009 with a $2.2 million option for 2010 or a $200,000 buyout. WILL OHMAN IS CONFUSING

Relief pitcher Will Ohman is by no means a superstar. I think signing a contract for the 2009 season on March 30th would probably indicate that. But the deal he settled for? It's interesting, to say the least.

Ohman passed up a major league contract with the Pirates nine days ago to take a minor league deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers today. That's right, guaranteed money and a roster spot now comes second to taking a shot at possibly making the Dodgers' roster.

This proves that the Pirates are still at the point where their dollar is not worth the same currency of other MLB franchises. But you can't fault the team on this one. Previous administrations probably would've vastly overpaid for a guy like Ohman, so at least they didn't go down that road again.

Ohman went to Pepperdine and had a desire to play on the West Coast, and apparently that was worth more in his mind than what the Pirates presented him. But really, is his presence or non-presence going to have a tremendous impact on the outcome of this season? I highly doubt it. Save the money for some draft picks or young players who will actually make a difference when we need them. Which probably isn't 2009.

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal is reporting that the Dodgers and Will Ohman have agreed to a one year deal with an invitation to Spring Training. "Will is a durable, proven left-handed reliever who has demonstrated over the course of his career the ability to get left-handed hitters out," Dodgers GM Ned Colletti said. Ohman, 32, went 4-1 with a 3.68 ERA last season with the Braves.
Ohman held lefties to a .200 average last season.

Dodgers Eye Ohman?

The Los Angeles Times is reporting that the Dodgers have made Will Ohman a one year offer worth 1 million dollars. Ohman, who is also in talks with the Pirates, threw for manager Joe Torre and others last week. The Dodgers were impressed with how quickly Ohman warmed up, which shows his strong work ethic despite being a free agent. "I've definitely been training with the purpose of being ready for opening day," Ohman said. "I think I showed that."
The Braves and Phillies backed out of talks with Ohman after he refused to back off his original offer of 2 million annually. If the Dodgers are serious, they could probably work out a one year deal in 1.3-1.5 million dollar range.

Pirates Pursuing Ohman?

The Pirates are still in talks with free agent lefty Will Ohman, according to the Pittsburgh Post Gazette. Ohman, who went 4-1 with a 3.68 ERA in 83 games for the Braves last season. What makes him particularly valuable is that he held lefties to a .200 average, and had a 2.89 ERA on the road. Ohman doesn't get many strikeouts, but he had a 1.24 WHIP and had just 22 walks. He makes for a good middle reliever who can bridge the gap between the middle and late innings for the Pirates.

Updating a previous story from yesterday it’s now believed that the Mets did not make an offer to LHP Will Ohman. It’s unknown whether he did or did not receive offers from four clubs, but it’s still believed hell stay in Atlanta. -NY Mets Global

Ohman is seen as a possible left-handed stopgap in the bullpen while J.C. Romero serves his 50-day suspension.

Ohman has spent six years in the major leagues, last year with the Atlanta Braves, in which he amassed a 4-1 record with a 3.68 ERA in 83 appearances. Since coming into the league in 2000 with the Chicago Cubs, he has a career 4.16 ERA in 218 2/3 innings.

The Colorado Rockies are also reportedly interested in acquiring Ohman's services.

The Nationals and Padres are among teams interested in free agent reliever Will Ohman. Ohman is hoping for a deal worth 4-5 million dollars annually, which is well deserved after going 4-1 with a 3.68 ERA in 83 games for the Braves last season. Ohman had a 2.77 ERA during the first half of the season (49 games), but obviously struggled in the second half. Ohman has drawn interest from nearly a dozen teams, but teams like the Rays and Diamondbacks have dropped out because they have found other options or simply do not have the money to pursue him.
The Mets, Dodgers, and Orioles remain possibilities for Ohman, who hopes to be signed within the next week.

Ohman has shown flashes of greatness over the course of his career, posting a 2.91 ERA in 2005 in 69 games. In 2008, Ohman was 4-1 this year with a 3.68 ERA in 83 games, and was the subject of many trade discussions at the deadline.
