Former Spur Rose comments on Spurs' title chances

Former San Antonio Spurs power forward Malik Rose was one of the most respected players on the team with his hustle and energy on both ends of the floor.

Now a Philadelphia 76ers' commentator for their games, Rose still keeps tabs on his former team and teammates who are on their final run for the franchise's fifth championship.

On what's the most important issue for the team's title dreams, Rose told Hard 2 Guard Radio:

They’re always going to have that nucleus with Tim, Tony and Manu- those guys know the system and they know each other…they do a good job of surrounding those guys with good role players. Guys, who do one or two things but do them well; like Gary Neal or Matt Bonner. The real key with San Antonio is how healthy are they going to be come April, May and June. That’s kind of been their Achilles heel for the last couple of seasons. As their health goes, they will go.

That's a statement that Spurs fans will whole heartedly ...

Was Kelly Tripucka Too Honest for MSG?

Last week it was reported that Kelly Tripucka and the MSG Network have decided to part ways.
Tripucka has been with the network since 2008 and served a duel role as studio analyst and backup to Clyde Frazier with the play-by-play. Knicks fans who watched the pre and postgame last season know he meshed well in the studio with Al Trautwig and Alan Hahn.
Hahn played the new-age writer turned TV pro who understands the blogosphere and was at the front line of the fans passion. Tripucka was the former old school player- a bit curmudgeonly- but knowledgeable about the game from an X and O standpoint. Trautwig played the referee and interjected his dry sense of humor. The MSG studio seemed to portray as fair and balanced a view as possible under the media-conscience Jim Dolan.
Now it appears Tripucka is gone and no replacement has been announced. You need a former player to work with Hahn, but who can it be? Baron Davis rehabbing from surgery has an undefined role with the organization an...

NY Knicks and MSG Decide Not to Bring Back Kelly Tripucka

MSG has decided not to bring back former NBA player, Kelly Tripucka, to their broadcast team.
Tripucka, a New Jersey native, appeared with Alan Hahn and MSG veteran Al Trautwig on the pre, post, and halftime shows. Tripucka was not fired, but it was decided that he would not be rehired by the network.
Tripucka’s replacement has not been announced but there are a few candidates that would make sense to occupy his vacant seat.
Malik Rose has done some work for the network, but he does not have much other experience on camera.
Baron Davis has been hired by the team to perform a variety of jobs, so I would not be surprised to see him on camera. He also intends to get into the entertainment and possibly political arenas, but I doubt he will be a full-time fill-in.
Don’t be surprised if you see Larry Johnson take a role with the TV crew. Johnson has already been working with the team in a community based roll. He started making appearances on TV and local radio last year, as well.

Could a Former Knicks Center Playing in NBA Finals Return to New York?

The NBA Finals are not only underway, but heating up to be an intense and electrifying matchup. Though the Heat and Thunder have three formers Knicks in total on their squads, none of those players are yet to hit the hardwood in the championship series.Thunder backup big man Nazr Mohammad is best remembered by New Yorkers for beginning to fill the void at center left by Patrick Ewing. Though both players were obviously on entirely different levels, Mohammad performed respectively and stepped up to do the best he could to fill the once present massive void. After averaging 10.9 points and 8.1 rebounds per game in 54 contests, he was prematurely traded in 2005 to the Spurs for Malik Rose and a future first round draft pick that the Knicks ultimately used to select David Lee. Since, Mohammad's career has continued as he's served as spot starter for teams like the Bobcats and Thunder.Though former Knicks big man Eddy Curry's career has been plagued with major injuries since ...

Duncan apparently hates KG

Chris Ballard of Sports Illustrated penned a wide ranging piece on Tim Duncan after spending some time with the future Hall of Famer. The piece attempts to shed light on a man that even after all these years of playing the NBA is still very much an enigma.
Ballard leads us through Duncan’s feeling about getting that infamous “DNP-Old” game, his friendship with Steven Jackson, being comfortable in his own skin, and how he thinks he wouldn’t have lasted that long if he had been drafted by the Knicks.
But something else caught our eye in this piece. It was the fact that, not Duncan, but someone close to him says that he absolutely hates Kevin Garnett.

5 His Buddy KG Just kidding, as this might count in his favor. In fact, Duncan hates Kevin Garnett. Hates him the way liberals hate Sean Hannity. This information comes from very reliable sources, who talk about how KG has made a career of trying to punk Duncan, baiting him and slapping him and whispering really weird smack into h...

San Antonio Spurs: The Team Nobody Wants to See

What about this big three?
Don’t get it twisted by the title because more than anything the fact that nobody wants to see this Spurs team is a huge sign of respect because we include several NBA teams in this mix. Yesterday Spurs Greg Poppovich was asked about how he feels about everyone saying his team is old. In typical Pop fashion he shrugs off the question …
“They have been saying that for ten years.”
Then he hit them with the Kanye Shrug. No disrespect to you or anyone else at your local sports bar that doesn’t want to see the Spurs in the NBA but they could really care less. They have the respect of everyone in the NBA and as long as they are alive in the playoffs all eyes will be on them. Lets meet the cast of characters.
The Big Three
Everyone likes to talk about the three guys in Boston and the three guys down in Miami. However, just a side note between Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan they have won 3 championships together. Nobody cares about that though (insert 1 minute vi

What has ex-Spur Malik Rose been up to?

For San Antonio Spurs fans that miss former Spur Malik Rose in the broadcast booth and are wondering where he went off to, he’s now doing color commentary for the Philadelphia 76ers. He’s already become a pretty big hit too. CSNPHILLY.com sat down with Malik to talk about his quirky on-air personality as well as how he’s enjoying his new gig. It’s definitely worth a read because you just never know what Malik is going to say next. He’s even inspired a Twitter hashtag up in Philadelphia, #S---MalikSays, for his references that make people stop and say, “Did he really just say that?” Check out his response to throwing out an Animal House reference on the air.
“Oh, yeah, the fans loved that one. Some of those just kind of slip out. I don’t plan them. With me, I watch a lot of sitcoms and movies. I watch the Dave Chappelle show religiously – back when it was on and now I watch the re-runs. I grew up watching movies, especially comedies. I try to relate some of those funny lines to bask...

Malik Rose Channels His Inner Negro-Damus

What's the meaning of life? Who's my father? Am I gonna get sick? Does Tim Tebow really exist?
For centuries, people have turned to one man for life's great mysteries -- like Spencer Hawes averaging 15 points, 12 rebounds, and over two blocks per 36 minutes -- and that man is ... Philadelphia 76ers analyst Malik Rose?

If you're not familiar with the Chappelle's Show skit, that could've been construed as a really awkward comment by Rose and may or may not have caught his Emmy winner sidekick Marc Zumoff off guard a little bit. But if you caught it, then you likely enjoyed it as much as Sixers' fans are enjoying their current little five game winning streak.
I have a few questions for the Negro-damus. Malik Rose, why did Eric Snow fall asleep during a broadcast last year? Malik Rose, why do the Pistons suck so bad? Malik Rose, whatever happened to Geena Davis?

Sixers Streak Continues With Win Over Raptors

The Philadelphia 76ers boosted their record to 5-2 after their 97-62 win over the Toronto Raptors. This is their best start to a season since 2000-01 when they bursted out to a 10-0 record.
There was plenty of hype around this team during the offseason. Many believed it was just a marketing ploy to sell tickets, but so far in the young season, the Sixers are proving that they may be for real.

Marc Zumoff and Malik Rose continually say it on air at seemingly every opportunity they have but it's true: every night it is a different Sixer that heats up. From Jrue Holliday to Andre Iguodala and Jodie Meeks to Evan Turner, the Sixers have so many weapons on their team, making it difficult for opposing teams to match up. At any moment, any of these players can get into a rhythm. Meeks showed that last night after he hit a few three-pointers en route to a 21-point night.
Against the Raptors, there wasn't one player who stood out above the rest. Holliday and Iguodala contribut...

Malik Rose to join 76ers broadcast team

Former San Antonio Spurs player and color commentator Malik Rose has found a full time gig in the broadcasting world. Rose will be returning to his home city of Philadelphia to become the Philadelphia 76ers' full time broadcaster according to the 76ers official site.
Comcast SportsNet Philadelphia, the leader in local sports coverage, today announced that former Drexel University standout and two-time NBA Champion Malik Rose joins Marc Zumoff and Meredith Marakovits on the Sixers broadcast team. Comcast SportsNet and The Comcast Network will air all 66 regular season games with “Sixers Pregame Live” and “Sixers Postgame Live” airing before and after every regular season game.
Over the last few seasons Rose would mainly fill in for Sean Elliot when Elliot wouldn't make lengthy road trips such as the infamous Rodeo Road Trip. Rose added his own brand of excitement to Spurs games and he'll surely make the Philly crowd enthusiastic about watching games from the television....

Malik Rose Is Joining Sixers Broadcast Team

The Sixers have a new addition to their broadcast team - former Drexel University standout Malik Rose. Rose also played for several NBA teams after being drafted by the Charlotte Hornets in the second round of the 1996 draft.
[CSN Philly]

Rose will join Zumoff for all Sixers broadcasts. Zumoff, who won his 13th Emmy this year, enters his 18th season as the Sixers television play-by-play announcer and his 30th as a part of the 76ers broadcast team. Marakovits is in her second season as a sideline reporter for the Sixers and this season she will cover the team both at home and on the road. Eric Snow has relinquished his role as color analyst for the 76ers to spend with time with his family in Atlanta.
