Right-hander Kip Wells has been activated from the 15-day disabled list by the Washington Nationals, who optioned right-hander Jason Bergmann to Triple-A Syracuse. Wells, 0-2 with a 6.26 ERA and two saves in 19 appearances for the Nationals, went on the disabled list May 31 with a right adductor strain, a move retroactive to May 31. Bergmann is 0-1 with a 6.91 ERA in 14 games. The Nationals play at the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.

The Philadelphia Phillies begin a 3 game set with the Washington Nationals at Citizens Bank Park tonight at 7:05. Washington is currently in a 10-game losing streak, and the Phils have every intention of upping that gruesome total to 13 by Thursday evening. Starting tonight will be Joe Blanton (6-12, 4.79 era, 1.40 whip) for the Phils and Jason Bergmann (2-9, 4.51, 1.40) for the Nats.
