DeShawn Stevenson: Washington Wizards Player Evaluation

DeShawn Stevenson aka The Lock Smith was involved in various "incidents" during the course of the past year. Some funny, some distracting.....but the guy still turned in the best season of his career.

What does the future hold for this Washington Wizard? Better shooting, I hope.

In Defense of the NBA Suspending Darius Songaila

The reason that I feel like writing about this at all is that as the media cycle has come around on this Cavs vs. Wizards first-round matchup, and the prevailing opinion that Darius Songaila should not have been suspended for game 6 has now become an unarguable fact in the media. I heard Steve Czaban talk about it this morning on Fox Sports Radio. I heard commentators talk about it during the Cavs' game 6. I heard commentators talk about it during the Celtics vs. Hawks game 6. It seems that everyone talking about this suspension is now referring to it as a great travesty - an injustice of epic proportions - the proof that the NBA is at worst fixed, and at best in favor of protecting their meal-ticket LeBron James to whatever lengths to ensure that he succeeds.

I have heard quite enough of this.

ProV Taking Shots at LeBron and Jay?

Never, ever could you have imagined that a first-round Eastern Conference playoff series that probably isn't going past five games would create various rap beefs overlapping guys from the likes of LeBron James and Jay-Z to Soulja Boy, DeShawn Stevenson, and some dude named ProV. You may have never heard of ProV, but he's got DeShawn Stevenson's back, as well as that of all of D.C.

Maintain Your Mental Toughness

When a team wins by 30 points Monday and loses by 30 points Thursday, it's not about basketball.
It might be about catcalls of "overrated," flagrant fouls, Soulja Boy, Jay-Z, the future of hip-hop and the American recording industry, who does or does not like who, The Big Trade, and a nightclub called Love. But it's not about basketball.

Stevenson's hard foul on LeBron worst of the Playoffs

The NBA Playoffs have been a physical matchup all around, with Jason Kidd and Brendan Haywood getting called for a Flagrant 2, but DeShawn Stevenson's foul of LeBron was easily the most flagrant of the bunch. He's clearly not going to get the block, but he swings anyway, with his forearm and hits LeBron right in the head. Coupled with the talk that has been exchanged by the two and the maliciousness of the hit, Stevenson was out of line.

Pierce Fined For Menacing Gesture

According to the Boston Herald:

This just in from the NBA office:

Boston Celtics forward Paul Pierce and Washington Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson have each been fined $25,000 for making menacing gestures during games played this weekend, it was announced today by Stu Jackson, NBA Executive Vice President Basketball Operations.

The incident involving Pierce occurred in the fourth period of the Celtics' 102-93 Game 3 loss to the Atlanta Hawks on April 26. The incident involving Stevenson occurred in the first period of the Wizards' 100-97 Game 4 loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers on April 27.

So, they fined Pierce for making a menacing gesture. Haven't seen where they fined Horford for taunting that led to the gesture from Pierce. So, now we have Perk getting a tech for looking and Pierce getting fined for gesturing. But, Smith can body slam Pierce and not even get a technical for it. And, Horford can wag his finger in Pierce's face and who knows what he said and nothing is done. Not to mention that the Hawks can disable the shot clocks in a move that clearly favored the home team and that is ok, too. The NBA... where amazing happens.

LeBron/DeShawn, Josh Howard, MIP and more

It's kind of sad that the most compelling thing about the Cavs/Wizards series is all the drama surrounding the ongoing feud between LeBron James and DeShawn Stevenson, though I have to admit I love hearing clueless announcers describe the insult in LeBron's comparison of DeShawn to Soulja Boy. Then Soulja Boy shows up and meets Stevenson before the Wizards go on to blow the Cavs out in Game 3. Apparently, LeBron bought a private room in a club that night and played a new Jay-Z song in which he disses Stevenson. Caron Butler and his squeeze were in the club and when they heard the song, they left. On and on it goes. Oh yeah, the Cavs are up 3-1 heading back to Cleveland.

Hedo Turkoglu won the Most Improved Player award, making me three for three in my year-end award predictions.
