NBA Handicapping: Rockets vs Mavericks

The Houston Rockets and the Dallas Mavericks will both be trying to pick up a win on Tuesday when they battle at American Airlines Center. Oddsmakers currently have the Mavericks listed as 6-point favorites versus the Rockets, while the game's total has not yet been posted. Luis Scola had a double-double with 19 points and 10 rebounds on Friday, leading the Rockets to a 105-94 victory over the Thunder. The Rockets covered the 6.5-point spread, and the 199 points made it OVER the posted ...

Mavericks defense has improved this season

Say what you want to about this team's offensive woes early on - at least before last night's 129-101 win over Toronto - but the Mavericks have played much better defense so far this season. Coach Rick Carlisle made it a focus early on, and the Mavericks have responded.

Off-season additions of foward Shawn Marion and pesty guard Quinton Ross have certainly helped.

For a team that once believed the fastest way to the win column was getting to 100 points, this season's Mavericks h...

Fantasy Basketball: Week 3 Schedule

Here’s a look at the Week 3 NBA schedule. Four Games
Dallas Mavericks
Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry, Shawn Marion, and Jason Kidd should be started with confidence. Jose Juan Barea (assists) and Erick Dampier (rebounds, blocks) are decent option because of the four-game schedule.
Golden State Warriors
Pretty sweet to have the high-scoring Warriors on a heavy schedule this week. [...]

Question: Do Josh Howard or Jason Terry Fit With the Wizards?

I'm going to make this quick, since I'm still working on Part 2 of this post (and if you'll believe it, it's even more complex than Part 1), but with the Dallas Mavericks emerging as a possible trade-up partner, I figured I'd take a minute to pose this discussion topic to the community. Dallas and DC are pretty good trade partners. The Mavericks are very much where they were in 2004, when they traded Antawn Jamison to the Wizards for the fifth pick in the 2004 draft.
How Consistent are Player Stats from One Year to the Next?

When I'm prepping for a draft and want to figure out how valuable a player is expected to be, 90% of the time I'll take a look at his stats from the prior season and make an adjustment up or down depending on the guy's age. If I'm really being thorough, maybe I look at the past two years. But is that right? Are players' stats consistent enough from year to year to make accurate predictions that way?

Kobe Should Keep it in House

How about all this Kobe Bryant stuff? It's big talk everywhere but it's especially buzzing here in SoCal. I can understand him being upset about not winning but he's the one who signed the contract. And if I'm the Lakers I don't want to waste the prime years of a super star like that.

Someone asked me if I'd like to see him go to the Mavericks. I used to have season tickets for the Mavs games. With Dirk and Jason Terry and Stackhouse, there wouldn't be enough shots for a guy like Kobe to come in. They would have to play with 3 or 4 balls.

My take on it is, as an athlete especially a super star like him, if you've got a problem with the organization keep it in house as much as possible. Go directly to the source and hash it out. He's good, probably the best in the game. I've gone to see him play a couple of times. He can do anything and if they just got an inside presence they could turn things around really quick. After the chose him over Shaq they can't trade him. He's the guy they have to build around.
