As you know Derrick Johnson was our first round pick in 2005. He has been a full time starter on our defense for the last four (4) years, and for the last four (4) years the Kansas City Chiefs’ defense has stunk. The Chiefs have been trying to ...

Chiefs Agree to Terms with LB Zach Thomas

The Kansas City Chiefs have agreed to terms with seven time Pro Bowl LB Zach Thomas. Thomas spent last season with the Dallas Cowboys. The Chiefs also acquired OLB Mike Vrable this offseason. In their three four scheme, this puts backers Derrick Johnson and Vrable on the outside with Thomas a probable starter in the middle. The fourth linebacker position is open, so the possibility of drafting Wake Forest LB Aaron Curry still exists.

Chiefs agree to terms with linebacker Zach Thomas

The Chiefs acquired 33-year-old linebacker Mike Vrabel earlier this offseason in the deal that landed the team QB Matt Cassell. Now they've added 35-year-old linebacker Zach Thomas to a suddenly more experienced defense.

The Chiefs, under new coach Todd Haley, plan to switch to a 3-4 defense like the Patriots ran, where new Chiefs GM Scott Pioli just came from. Vrabel and Thomas will join Derrick Johnson as starters, leaving one spot open to fill, perhaps through the draft.

Chiefs Banking a Shift to the Middle Ignites Johnson

From: Pro Football Weekly
With injuries decimating their linebacking corps, the Chiefs opted to shift LB Derrick Johnson from the outside to the middle prior to the Week 14 game at Denver. But while the team suggests the move was made to insert life into the defense, we hear that it was more like a sign [...]

On Wednesday, Jason Whitlock of The Kansas City Star wasted column space defending what he'd written about Tyler Thigpen being the Chiefs' backup quarterback of the future in another recent column.
Reggie Bush Out Again

Reggie Bush missed practice again on Friday and will not be available for the Saints when they visit Kansas City on Sunday,

Deuce McAllister will get a majority of the carrries and should be a in for a good day against the Chiefs. The Chiefs rank dead last in rushing yards given up per game (172.3). Also the Chiefs look to be without LB Derrick Johnson, DE Tamba Hali, and MLB Pat Thomas. Pierre Thomas will back-up Deuce and could see some touches, but he will not be worthy of a start.

What a Difference a Win Makes

Everyone at Arrowhead is all smiles this week, L.J. seems to understand his role in the offense, two weeks after saying he saw "the writing on the wall". Derrick Johnson played the best game of his Chiefs career Sunday, a forced fumble, interception and a half a sack that went uncredited.. Now in his fourth year Johnson may have finally realized his potential and role on the team as leader of the defense. That would be good news for the Chiefs who are in need of leadership with all the young inexperienced players.
With the Chiefs victory over the Denver Broncos they put their selves in a position with a win at Carolina and a Chargers loss to move into a two way tie in the AFC WEST. Granted that seems to be a unlikely scenario but keep in mind a Chiefs victory against a undefeated Broncos team seemed unlikely. With a victory in hand at least the Chiefs now have some scenarios. a?? . The Chargers will face a Dolphins team that is unpredictable to say the least, they started out 0-2 and then knocked of the Patriots snapping their regular season winning streak, in dominating fashion in their house. The Chargers have shown the propensity to play to their competitions level. Last week they let the Raiders get up on them 18-3 before exploding for 25 points in the fourth quarter. This game has upset written all over it.

But the Chiefs cannot afford making the mistake of thinking they have corrected their problems. They still have a run defense that looks like swiss cheese. The receivers have not got separation all season, besides Tony G and D-Bowe no receiver has stepped up to be a third option in the passing game. The Chiefs are one victory away from a full blown QB controversy if Damon Huard leads his second consecutive upset it would be hard to put him on the bench when injured QB Brodie Croyle returns after the bye week.
This game is major fork in the road for the Chiefs, a victory and Huard might remain QB and the Chiefs would still be in the hunt in the AFC west. Herm said in his press conference Tuesday that if the Chiefs kept winning "who knows a??..stay tuned". 2-3 is a lot different than 1-4 at 2-3 you can be competitive at 1-4 you are dead in the water and your season is over . At 1-4 there would be no point in playing Huard the Chiefs would need to play Brodie the rest of the season just to see what most people already know, that he was drafted in the third round to be Trent Green's backup not to be the quarterback of the future. Brodie has shown no signs of being a starting NFL QB or the ability to stay healthy long enough to develop into that guy. But he has played so little that if your season is lost you have to play him just to make sure he is not the "guy".

A.A. Fantasy Football League Draft Results

We had the official Arrowhead Addict Fantasy Football League draft last night. The big surprise, at least Chiefs-wise, was that Larry Johnson went No. 1 overall.
Texas Longhorns Position Preview: Linebackers

Position Rating: C+

Linebacker has been a position of much consternation for the Longhorns since Derrick Johnson left the 40 Acres. A good way to ruin a perfectly good time last season was to bring up linebacker play around a bunch of Texas fans. This year might be different as there are guys all over the depth chart that have fans excited. [...]
