LeBron James Unveils Nike Zoom Soldier III During Game 1

LeBron James debuted the Nike Zoom Soldier III on the court Saturday when Cleveland beat Detroit, 102-84. Designed with James’ playoffs needs in mind, the Nike Zoom Soldier III is the lightest shoe designed for James, to date, with this Nike Zoom Soldier series becoming LeBron’s perennial playoff footwear. “A basketball player’s body takes a beating over the course of an 82 game season,” said Design Director Ken Link. “The Nike Zoom Soldier III is designed to give LeBron a lightweight, responsive shoe for the playoffs, when every game counts.” Constructed to be lower to the ground and extremely responsive, the Nike Zoom Solider III weighs in at a mere 13.7 ounces, the lightest basketball shoe Nike has delivered to LeBron James, to date. The Nike Zoom Soldier III features a mesh upper for lightweight breathability. Two synthetic-leather straps across the top of the mid-foot provide a stable, lock-down fit and add the stylish look. The mid-sole is comprised of Nike Zoom Air units in the heel and forefoot for lightweight, responsive cushioning. A non-traditional solid rubber outsole provides unmatched traction and durability. Link added, “LeBron challenged us to make the Zoom Soldier III even lighter than ever and we delivered. The shoe is also a great summer hoops shoe. It’s both lightweight and strong, so it’s able to withstand the pounding of outdoor play.” The Nike Zoom Soldier III features a badge on the shoe’s tongue comprised of symbols that borrow meaning from LeBron’s life and personal beliefs. Limited quantities of the Nike Zoom Soldier III with LeBron’s playoff badge on the tongue will be available to consumers in limited quantities. Nike will feature additional player-exclusive styles with the special badging for the playoffs. Carrying on a tradition from the previous generation, the Nike Zoom Soldier III represents the essence of LeBron James: team, toughness, passion and vision. On the sockliner is LeBron’s credo for family and his pride for the game of basketball. On the back of the tongue is an image of a lion, representing LeBron’s aggressiveness on the court. LeBron’s signature is included on the heel of each shoe and his number 23 adorns the tops of the eyelets. The Nike Zoom Soldier III will be available beginning April 17, 2009 at Nike.com, Eastbay.com, Foot Action, Foot Locker, House of Hoops and specialty retail stores nationwide. Beginning on Saturday, a total of four unique colorways of the Nike Zoom Soldier III will roll out over the next six weeks. OTHER NEWS ACROSS THE BUSINESS OF SPORTS NETWORK Amazin'!
Sports Illustrated NFL Preview

I have always been a big sports fan; way back for as long as I can remember. The seasons changed and I went from baseball to football to basketball but one thing was certain - I was going to participate and compete AND I was going to watch the pros play. When you grow up in Chicago that means watching Walter Payton and the Bears, Michael Jordan and the Bulls, and Andre Dawson and the Cubs.

Back then, I would always get the weekly edition of Sports Illustrated. I couldn't get enough. I would even cut out the pictures and the covers and tape them to my walls.

I've been a pro football player for 10 years now and I have been fortunate enough to be on the cover of Sports Illustrated one time. Many times at autograph sessions I have been asked to sign the cover for people. It never gets old for me to see that magazine.

This week, Sports Illustrated is putting out their 2008 NFL Preview Edition. I was informed that there will be six different regional covers and that I will be one of them. The other five players featured in the regional covers are Patriots QB Tom Brady, Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson, Dallas QB Tony Romo, Jaguars RB Maurice Jones-Drew and Vikings RB Adrian Peterson.

It's still a thrill for me to be on the cover.

The real MVP of the Jaguars Steelers game

After the game when people are discussing what player was the most valuable player in the Jaguars Steelers game most people would pick the obvious and go with Maurice Jones-Drew. Don't get me wrong Jones-Drew had a great game but the real MVP was his former high school teammate. Derek Landri coming into the game was a 4th round pick out of Notre Dame and had 11 tackles in his first season and played with Jones-Drew at De La Salle in California. But when John Henderson went down in the gam...

Start and Bench Suggestions: Week 6

Welcome to Week 6, friends. Also known as An Egregious Amount of Byes Week. Hopefully you all are still in the fantasy game even though many of the first round RBs have not exactly performed as expected. Not sure that back in August I would've believed that Laurence Maroney, Maurice Jones-Drew and Marques Colston would be riding my bench week in and week out. Here's hoping for a solid Week 6 from our so-called studs.
