Cowboys Corner - Dallas Cowboys 2009 Felix Jones' Return!!!

Cowboys RB Felix Jones has not been on the field with his teammates since pulling his hamstring in the sixth game of last season. With his rehab nearly complete, Jones suffered a toe injury that required surgery that knocked him out for the rest of the season.
What the Cowboys saw in that little taste of action was an explosiveness that few have. Jones scored four touchdowns (three rushing, one kick return). He averaged 8.9 yards per carry and 27.1 yards on 16 kick returns.
Jones said he...

Marion Barber's Future In Dallas

Ok at the end of 2007 I was a full out supporter for Marion being the starter, but at the end of 2008 I would just like him to be featured in the 2nd half again and on our 2nd and 3rd and shorts again.
Dont get me wrong I love Marion to death, it's just that it takes him the whole first half to warm up and get to running like the beast he is. Which brings me to the question that has been plauging me since I had the oppurtunity to watch Felix Jones and Tashard Choice run. That question is ...

EAGLES LIST: Top 6 Offseason needs...

I, like most of the educated Eagles fans out there, have realized that this team is no longer "1 piece away from a championship", and therefor decided to comprise a list of the top 6 positions that I believe need to be addressed this offseason (player wise, NOT coaching/management/FO). Obviously, all of these needs will be hard to be addressed, or atleast to the degree that most of us would like to see. So what I am doing here is simply listing the positions and a short analysis of why each position should be addressed, in my opinion. All of your opinions are welcomed, as well as what you think are the 2009 Philadelphia Eagles most glaring needs to have a successful run at the playoffs and possibly a championship next year. I haven't done as much college/draft analysis as I would have usually accumulated by this point in the year due to a busy work season. But I will give you what I know/think from the knowledge that I have regarding free agents/trades/and draft picks for the up and coming season. Please let me know how you personally feel about what we should do this offseason, even if you have to dream a little, or a lot....For the sake of my list, I'm going to go with McNabb staying next year, and not address kicker, as I think Akers is starting to get back into it, and I wanted to list most GLARING needs that would get us to a super bowl...Thanks for reading, and I apologize ahead of time for any draftees I listed that aren't eligible or you don't agree with. I just went from what I saw in person this college season, and some of the analysis's I read from numerous scouts, writers, websites, and "draft experts" and came up with my own list taking all I have collected and making one list. I also am leaving alone the whole Andy Reid situation and FO situation and strictly went on what I thought the Eagles needed to do PLAYER wise to make it back to the top next year. I know we also have other needs, again, this was just what I thought we need to do. Opinions, agreements/disagreements, and all input is welcome from ALL fans and ALL teams and is greatly appreciated.

Bill Walsh made a quote years ago along the lines of this, and as simple as it sounds, there is much truth in the quote that still sings true in today's modern NFL......"WHen you draft at a certain spot, and are drafting at that exact spot, for an exact position, than you are passing on multiple players that are leaps and bounds ahead of the specific needs you may have" So I would have to agree, you should make a list of the top positions and their importance to your team in the draft. (unless say you are in desperate need of a QB and there is an absolute stud sitting there when you have a more pressing need that is also sitting there) Say you have the 15th overall pick in the first round, or any other round, and you need a safety, a WR, and a DE, but you need one more than the other. You take who you have as the highest rated player period out of your group of needs, instead of going for one specific position and passing up players with a considerable amount more talent just because you have a "need" when there are many more rounds where you can address that need, or try to get creative with trades to move up and get the "highest priority of need" shortly after. That was Bill Walsh, and Im sure many more FO's strategies, and we no fora fact that it is not always the gameplan for the Eagles going into the draft. Although it seems they have been leaning more that way recently for their first few picks the last couple years. ex: Kevin Kolb. But another example is trading OUT of the 1st last year and passing on Felix Jones who would have been the absolute perfect compliment to Westbrook. Well,if he would have stayed healthy and in the long run.

"Houston Bowl" Comes To Fayetteville, Arkansas

There are many great college football games this weekend but the one I personally look forward to will kick off at Reynolds Razorback Stadium Saturday night. Ole Miss at Arkansas may not be on your list but it tops mine.

Saturday, Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt returns to Arkansas for the first time since he resigned last November as head coach of the Razorbacks. Nutt became a polarizing figure in the Razorback nation the last couple of years. From the Gus Malzahn experience to cell phone gate, blah, blah, blah, no sense rehashing the chain of events that led to Nutt's getting the heck out of dodge (or Fayetteville.) Nutt wasn't interested either when asked about it during his weekly press conference.

"I don't want to get into all that. How did they know I was leaving or when I was leaving?" Nutt said. "All I know is that we gave a lot of effort and a lot of energy to that program for 10 years every single day from daylight to exhaustion."

There were many in the Razorback nation who wanted to see Nutt throw it a little more, to have a more entertaining offense. I thought it was pretty entertaining watching Darren McFadden and Felix Jones bust some long TD runs. I suspect Nutt knew he didn't have the type of quarterback that could sling it, and Hog fans, judging from this year Nutt might have been correct.

On the flipside, Bobby Petrino came to Arkansas in a storm of controversy that initially created a deeper divide among Razorback Nation. I've got to give Petrino credit, he practiced good P.R., showed a bit of personality and won over those Hog fans who had doubt. Petrino is taking a beat down this year but the track record is there for success.

Petrino is playing down the side story of Saturday's Ole Miss - Arkansas game.
"I understand the build up by the Razorback fans, that's natural." Patrino said. "Our players understand that it's our football team against their football team. Let's take the coaches out of it, let's take the past out of it and let's just get ready to go out there and compete, play hard, play the game that we all love."

You bet Ole Miss and especially Arkansas (myself included) circled this date on their calendar. He didn't circle the date but Nutt thought about it.

"I don't know an exact number, but off and on." Nutt said. "There have been several times when you think about what it's going to be like when you're coming from the opposite side, coming from the other dressing room. Now, you're halfway through the season, you're locked into Ole Miss, you're locked into the players you have here and I've gotten very close to them. I'm looking forward to it, but I can't give you an exact number of how many times. It's definitely crossed my mind."

If anything, Saturday's Ole Miss - Arkansas game ramps up this rivalry.
"There will be a lot of people at the ball game, and it was probably an instant rival as soon as most of our staff came over here since there was so much talk about it." Nutt said.

What kind of reception will Houston Nutt get at the game? My guess it will be a mixture of polite applause and a cold reception. There still many wounds that haven't healed among the Hog fan base.
I can tell you this, Ole Miss will play hard, Arkansas will play hard. Nutt's Arkansas recruits will play hard. It should be an intense football game Saturday in the Ozarks.
