Game Preview #14: San Antonio Spurs @ Houston Rockets

Damn, this team is deep.
After the nasty 4-6 start to the season, the Spurs have gone on a 3-game winning streak. In the last game, we beat an exhausted, overworked Warriors team that was on a SEGABABA. Big frickin' deal. The only "good" team we beat during our little win streak was Milwaukee, and that's a very liberal usage of the word "good". Tonight, the task gets a bit tougher - beat an angry Rockets team in their arena.

This Week in San Antonio Spurs Basketball: Monday Spursvalanche

The goal: for these TWSS posts to be your one stop for all things Spurs-related. And since preseason is now officially over, we might stick to a format for more than a week.

Feedback is always appreciated, so drop us a comment after the jump.

Here we'll provide information, links and summaries for all the games the Spurs played during the week, so that no one has to miss Pop sneering at a reporter.

San Antonio Spurs waive Marcus Williams

And then there were 15.
The Spurs have announced that Marcus Williams has been waived. Considering Malik Hairston's play and the fact Marcus didn't play in the last couple preseason games, this isn't a surprise.

The two remaining decision are: 1) Do they keep Hairston? 2) Do they extend Ian?
We'll know the answer in the next couple days. Hairston by end of day tomorrow and Ian by October 31st.

Today was the open practice and scrimmage at the AT&T center. It was also host to some additional events. I was there for a rookie season ticket holder event. When Holt went all in, I felt like I should as well. I'm a diehard sports and Spurs fan, and I'm lucky enough to work in the city where I was born and my favorite pro team plays. The seats might fit my budget better in the future, but I'd regret it forever if I missed seeing Duncan, Ma...

NBA Summer League Day Ten Recap - The Grind Is Over/Spurs Lose

Well, the Summer League finished with couple of amazing finishes for me. Marcus Williams, the other Marcus Williams, hit a little floater with 0.4 seconds left to lift the Memphis Grizzlies to a win over the San Antonio Spurs. Then, in an absolutely AMAZINE finish, the D-League Select team stole an inbounds pass and drained a 3-pointer to knock of the Portland Trail Blazers in a 20-point come from behind victory.
In other news, I met Pop, I got Ian's shoes, and I'm D-...

Too Early? It's Never Too Early To Speculate

It's time for a little premature speculation on the Spurs roster and depth for the upcoming season. No, Summer League isn't finished, but the results of that so far haven't been very surprising. Come on in, the water's fine, and it's just been cleaned up in anticipation of a river parade.

I'll start by saying that I believe the Spurs will fill 13 or 14 roster spots by the end of training camp, leaving the final one or two open in case another To...

Spurs Hire Dream GM

You know, I was thinking the other day that maybe the Spurs COULD hire some random web site writer to be their GM just like Bill Simmons has been lobbying. Of course, if they did their research, they would immediately rule out Simmons for being a dumb ass based on his "We'll give you Foye, our No. 6 pick and Brian Cardinal's 2010 expiring contract for Parker."Let's see, the Wolves turned Foye and Miller into a #5 pick and some expiring contracts. Yo...

Get to know your new Spurs #2: Marcus Williams

After davis's recent post introducing Richard Jefferson to us, it's time to review a guy that was already on the Spurs' roster, but often forgotten in the chaos of the big trade, and then the draft. A quick note to RJ: even though his name is Marcus Williams, he's not going to push you away(thanks to BlaseE for the find) after a good offensive possession. In fact, you both play the same position(SF), so you won't be on the floor together. And yo...

Warriors acquire Marcus Williams

So far, Marcus Williams has been a bust. The former first-round pick (#22 overall) clearly hasn't panned out, as he's averaging just 6.4 points and 3.0 assists and shooting 38.9% from the field in his brief career. That didn't stop Golden State from trading a future first round pick for him.

From the NY Post blog....

" The trade will be announced later today.

The pick is lottery protected for 2011, so the Nets get it if the Warriors are in the playoffs. If it goes ...

Denver to Send Melo to The Nets?

The Denver Nuggets are reportedly in talks with the New Jersey Nets that includes one of the premiere players in the league. The rumored deal is that Denver will send Carmelo Anthony and Marcus Camby to the New Jersey for Richard Jefferson, Marcus Williams, and the soul of retired* Keith Van Horn. How does this all fit? What team is getting the upperhand? Take a brief look and let us know what you think?
