Panthers 3, Canes 0

SUNRISE, Fla. -- Steven Reinprecht gave the Panthers a 1-0 lead at 5:09 of the third, tipping in a Cory Stillman shot. Stillman then added a power-play goal with 6:16 to play, and with Tomas Vokoun strong in net, Florida had all it needed.

The Panthers, gaining more energy and the game progressed, had several chances to add to the lead through the middle minutes of the third. Michael Frolik missed an open net. Gregory Campbell had a good look in front, and Kenndal McArdle.

30 Teams/30 Days: Florida Panthers

Outlook:
The Florida Panthers have not made the playoffs since 2000, and while they were in the playoff race during the last week of the 2008-09 season, don’t expect head coach Peter DeBorer and company to have similar results in 2009-10.
While it is true that the Panthers have a lot of young and up-in-coming talent on the roster, particularly at forward, they’re still going to be hit hard at defense, with the departure of Jay Bouwmeester.
Not all news is bad news however at the B...

Preview: Introducing the 2009-10 Florida Panthers!

NHL season previews often sell you an impressive bill of goods before you realize, at the end of the season, you're holding an empty box. Which makes using advertisements and infomercials the appropriate template for Puck Daddy's 2009-10 NHL Season Previews, presented each day throughout September.Last Season's Ad Copy: Ninth in the Eastern Conference, third in the Southeast Division (41-30-11, 93 points). It was the dawn of a new beginning in South Florida. Peter DeBoer took over...

NHL Countdown: No. 21 Florida Panthers

Luke DeCock, Sporting News Yearbooks

Leading into the Oct. 1 season openers, Sporting News will preview one NHL team per day, counting backward from our preseason No. 30-ranked team to No. 1.
For the past four years, the Panthers have been knocking on the door of the playoffs. And for the past four years, they have fallen short — although never by more than nine points.
Last season, a playoff spot was denied only by a tiebreaker when Florida finished with 93 points, its highes...

A New Era In Florida

from Shawn P. Roarke of NHL.com,

The Florida Panthers have not made the Stanley Cup Playoffs since accumulating a franchise-record 98 points in the 1999-2000 season. If the Panthers are to break that drought before it stretches into a second decade, they will do it with a distinctly new look....

Following last season’s near-miss, Jacques Martin, the team’s general manager and former coach, walked away in early June to become coach of the Montreal Canadiens. The Panthers have yet to n...

It's Time to Pack Up the 'Cats

If you stuck with the Caps' victory in south Florida all the way through the final, shotless frame for the hosts last night, you saw a vast bowl of emptiness surround the ice sheet. It was only moderately filled two hours earlier. Seated invisibily down low were the ghosts of Roberto Luongo and Olli Jokinen; soon, Jay Boumeester will join them. Soon, it seems, the Panthers' organization will be reside in south Florida as mere ghosts.
Good.
While some Caps' fans last night...

McCabe, Panthers’ Newest Addition

Well, the long anticipated trade, has been finally completed. Not a trade that is very controversial, only Toronto Maple Leaf fans arguing over if the fourth round pick was legit or not. So in that case, I guess it was pretty good wasn't it? It seems that way. How do you judge this trade? I think it's pretty much trading a liability for a liability, an injury burdened Mike Van Ryn for an under-performing Bryan McCabe. So either way, both teams have question marks with their respective returns.
