Will the Jay Fill Their Lineup Holes at Winter Meetings?

The Winter Meetings start tomorrow in Indianapolis. The Jays have 3 large holes to fill and the most talked about trade piece in the game. Their needs, not that they are a secret:

Catcher: they have decided they don't want to go with JP Arencibia and Raul Chavez. I know JP didn't have a very good year last year in Vegas but I'm not against the idea of throwing him against the wall and seeing if he sticks. Let's face it, last year Rod Barajas got on base at a .258 clip...

Overbay will be moved...

The Mets are in the market for a 1B and the first name this off-season they were linked to was Lyle Overbay. That three team deal has been long since shot down, however; Overbay is still believed to be available. The 32 y/o left handed 1B is a lifetime .280 hitter and known as a solid defender. Jeff Blair is reporting that he's being told there's a 90% chance Overbay gets moved at the winter meetings...Had baseball guy with other organization tell me today he thinks Overbay 90 per-cen...

Over the weekend, rumors started circulating that Lyle Overbay was on his way to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for catcher Chris Snyder.
Trade talks hit a snag on Monday, but XDAY the deal was finalized. In addition to Overbay and Snyder swapping squads, THIS HAPPENED.

While the Cubs’ hopes of sending Milton Bradley to Toronto have been noted previously, Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal today claims such a move, however unlikely, would involve Luis Castillo going to Wrigley and underachieving OF Lyle Overbay becoming a member of the New York Mets.
The three-team possibility, according to one source, has “some legs, but [...]

Bradley Being Discussed In Three-Way Deal

A very interesting idea is being reported by Ken Rosenthal: a three-way deal, with Milton Bradley going to the Blue Jays, Luis Castillo to the Cubs, and Lyle Overbay to the Mets. Rosenthal said "The teams indeed have discussed the framework of such a deal, though not in direct fashion, according to major-league sources."
Breaking it down, the trade makes the most sense for the Mets, who would clear second base for long-coveted Orlando Hudson, a free agent. Overbay has also mashed r...

Could the Cubs really be this stupid?

Ken Rosenthal says it’s still a longshot, but the Cubs are discussing a potential 3-team trade that would send Milton Bradley to the Blue Jays, Lyle Overbay to the Mets and Luis Castillo to the Cubs. This has to be a ******* joke. Luis Castillo isn’t even as good as a platoon of Fontenot and Baker. I’m not even going to get into how unfair a trade it is to send Bradley away and get only Luis Castillo in return.

Earlier we were wondering what the Blue Jays might give ...

An interesting report by Nick Piecoro regarding a possible trade with the Toronto Blue Jays. This would see prodigal first-baseman Lyle Overbay return to the Diamondbacks. He was traded to the Brewers as part of the Richie Sexson trade in December 2003, and has been with the Blue Jays since the end of 2005. The deal is reported to involve Chris Snyder, now deem...

If Mike Lowell is out for an extended period of time, or never fully returns to form, does that make Lyle Overbay a good fit in Boston?

Overbay is currently hitting .251/.375/.461, and again is playing above-average defense at first base. Overbay also has the ability to hit the ball to the opposite field, something that would be a great benefit to him with the Green Monster residing there.

He's owed $7 million next season, and that is not much at all knowing he is insurance for th...

Dirty Slide?

Jays' first baseman Lyle Overbay has got himself into a little controversy with Alex Cora. Here's why.

Cora was flipped over by Overbay on a double-play that ended the eighth inning of a 5-3 Red Sox's win at the Rogers Centre a week ago tomorrow. Overbay slid out of the baseline with his arms raised to break up the double play and Cora had to be restrained by teammate Dustin Pedroia.
