Penguins Send 13 Players to AHL, Trim Roster to 29

As anticipated, Pittsburgh Penguins' General Manager Ray Shero announced the next round of training camp cuts today, sending 13 players to the AHL affiliate Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins. The 13 players sent to Wilkes-Barre includes forwards Kris Beech, Ryan Stone, Adam Henrich, Aaron Boogaard, Tim Wallace, Jonathan Filewich, David Gove and Christopher Minard. It also includes defensemen Deryk Engelland, T.J. Kemp, Ben Lovejoy and Joey Mormina, as well as goaltender David Brown. The cuts trimmed the Penguins' training camp roster to 29 players

Penguins Free Agency Update

It has been a week of good news and bad news for the Pittsburgh Penguins as they have seen several roster gains, losses and signings as the free agency market swings into full motion. Ray Shero is quick to emphasize that he managed to keep the core in place, yet he lost his #1 post-season priority as Marian Hossa opted to take a 1-year deal with the Detroit Red Wings. While managing to keep their defensive core, centers, and starting goaltender in place, the Penguins have lost the majority of their active wingers to the free agent market.

Penguins Fall to Flyers, Will Face Senators in Round 1

The Pittsburgh Penguins closed out the regular season on the road today with a 2-0 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers. With the loss, the Penguins ceded claim of the Eastern Conference title to the Canadiens by finishing with 102-points (47-27-8 ), 2-points behind Montreal (47-25-10). The Penguins will face an injury riddled Ottawa Senators in Round 1. Team Captain Sidney Crosby did not play in the game, apparently being rested for the playoffs as he continues to recover from a high ankle sprain. The Penguins added Gary Roberts (broken leg) and Kris Beech (broken wrist) back into the lineup after extended absences by both players due to injury.
