Peter Tessier: Great Expectations- a profile of Steve Bernier

A former first round draft pick and major piece of the Brian Campbell deal in 2008, Steve Bernier is expected to be a key player for the Canucks this season. Is there pressure on the 24 year old- certainly but probably not as much as last year now that Vancouver fans understand him better.

In the 2008 off season the deal made by Mike Gillis to trade a 2nd and 3rd round picks to Buffalo for his...

Thank You!

The Rust vs Rest debate, while really a no-brainer when given a choice between the two, was front-and-centre in Thursday night's 5-3 win for the Canucks over the Blackhawks in the first game of their Western Conference Semi-Final ... there was rust alright, but surprisingly, it was almost as prevalent in the Hawk's game as it was the Canucks who had the 8 full days off between games.

The Canucks were lucky to escape with the win after letting the young stars of Chicago find their ...

Who Woulda Thunk It?

The Vancouver Canucks North West Division Champions when, after gaining one point in a 4-3 OT loss to Minnesota on Jan 31st, they were 12 points behind Calgary and had played 2 more games than the Flames? While not quite worthy of miracle status, it's pretty damn close in today's NHL game where about 40% of the losing teams still get a point in the standings.Yesterday in Colorado they once again battened down the hatches defensively and Roberto Luongo recorded his 2nd straight shutout ...

Blues sign Steve Bernier to offer sheet - BWAHAHAHAHAHA

I honestly laughed out loud when I read this over at Stlouisblues.com:"ST. LOUIS – St. Louis Blues President John Davidson announced today that the club has signed Group II free agent forward Steve Bernier to an offer sheet worth $2.5 million for next season. The Canucks will have seven days to match the offer or receive St. Louis’ 2nd round draft choice in 2009."

What the Puck?

The trade deadline has come and passed and I would argue that it was not quite as monumental as many expected. Although Marian Hossa, Brad Richards, and Brian Campbell moved, Olli Jokinen, Alex Tanguay, Michael Ryder, Rob Blake, John Michael-Liles and many other "expected" trades did not occur. Nonetheless, the deadline was full of some surprises and there were definitely many winners and losers, both teams and players, on the deadline. In this edition of What the Puck? I will take ...

Montreal and San Jose working on a trade?

The Montreal rumor mill has been grinding away this week ? and the San Jose Sharks have been front and center in much of the trade gossip.

First, San Jose was supposed to be sending forwards Patrick Marleau and Steve Bernier to the Canadiens for forwards Saku Koivu and Michael Ryder.

Then it was Koivu and Ryder for Marleau alone, or Bernier and center Joe Pavelski. Other names were tossed into the mix.

Just When Ya Think It's Safe To Go Back In The Water...

...the Preds scavenge the leftovers. What'd they now? Another dirty hit on another Shark when Cheechoo was already hurt; this time it was Steve Bernier. Pred Radulov left his skates, then Bernier left the game. As for the Cheechoo incident, it appears from Rule 23.3 that Hartnell will face a multi-game suspension. If Radulov and Hartnell play at 100% and Cheech and Bernier can't, is this fair?
