Ducks stun Blues with late goal

Jason Blake scored the tiebreaking goal from behind the St. Louis net with 5:54 to play, and the Anaheim Ducks rallied from a third-period deficit for a 4-3 victory over the NHL-leading Blues on Wednesday night.

Devante Smith-Pelly tied it earlier in the third period for the Ducks, who erased three St. Louis leads before Blake banked his seventh goal of the season off the skate of St. Louis defenseman Ian Cole. Jonas Hiller made 35 saves for Anaheim, which won five straight home games over St. Louis.

Cam Fowler and Nick Bonino also scored and captain Ryan Getzlaf had two assists for the Ducks, whose playoff hopes are essentially dead despite a strong second-half surge under new coach Bruce Boudreau. Anaheim (32-32-11) is nine points out of eighth place in the Western Conference with just seven games to play.

Jaden Schwartz scored his second goal in his second NHL game, while captain David Backes and David Perron also scored for the first-place Blues in their first game since earning their 100th point and c

Scouting the Deadline: Jason Blake

When it comes to trade scenarios involving the Anaheim Ducks, most of the focus has been on Bobby Ryan. It’s very easy to lose sight of the other players on the Ducks, pending free agents, who the Ducks are more likely to move come the trade deadline. The Ducks have six forwards that will be free agents at the end of the season, and only two (Teemu Selanne, Saku Koivu) have some form of no trade clause.
Jason Blake is a name that jumps out when looking at that list. He has had some injuries this year that have limited him to just 20 games, but in that span he has nine points (5-4-9), that’s about a 40 point pace. Signed at $4 million, he fits under the cap for the Rangers as well. Perhaps the best part about Blake is that he would come relatively cheap, or at least much cheaper than Selanne or Ryan. He also comes with less risk than Rick Nash or Jeff Carter, as both of them are signed until I turn 40.
Blake is no longer the 40 goal threat he was with the Islanders, but he still has ...

Jason Blake scored two goals to lift the Anaheim Ducks to a 4-2 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday night.

Bobby Ryan and Nick Bonino also scored to help the Ducks win for the fifth time in six games. Anaheim's only loss in that span was a 1-0 overtime defeat in Calgary.

Ducks LW Blake could return Wednesday

Anaheim Ducks winger Jason Blake could return to action as early as Wednesday, according to the Orange County Register.
Blake, who has been out since cutting his wrist on a skate on October 14, is practicing regularly and head coach Bruce Boudreau told reporters he expects to see Blake on the ice either Wednesday, versus the San Jose Sharks, or Friday, against the New York Islanders.
Blake’s original time table called for a mid-January return. He has played in only three games this year and boasts a minus-1 rating.
The Ducks are also expecting to return center Saku Koivu next Friday. He’s been out with a groin injury since Dec. 8 and has five goals and 10 assists on the season.

Ducks recall Maroon to replace injured Blake

The Anaheim Ducks have recalled left wing Patrick Maroon from their AHL affiliate in Syracuse.

The Ducks made the move before Sunday's game against St. Louis to replace veteran left wing Jason Blake, who will be out three months with tendon damage in his left forearm.

Maroon scored 48 points in 57 games for Syracuse last season. The 6-foot-4 power forward had five points in his first two games with the Crunch this season.

The 23-year-old Maroon has never played in the NHL, but scored a preseason goal for the Ducks last month.

Anaheim acquired Maroon from Philadelphia last November, several weeks after the Flyers dismissed him from their organization. Maroon reportedly clashed with Philadelphia's AHL coaches and management.

Bobbled pucks, fading off, and other signs of shellfish poisoning

People get hurt in all kinds of situations but it’s more likely when people are confused and scrambling. Last night, the Ducks’ Jason Blake was the unlucky party:

“It was a weird, freak play – the battle in the faceoff and I didn’t really know he fell right away. He was kind of behind me” Burns, continued: ” ...the puck was there and I was trying to kick the puck up and I think he was trying to get the puck. It was just a battle and I didn’t even know he was on the ground.” -David Pollak’s Twitter feed

All seem to agree that it was a freak accident, but one of the things that tends to happen when things are going badly is someone gets hurt.

This isn't pretty and I hope that former Fighting Sioux forward Jason Blake isn't hurt too bad. Let's hope that Jason makes a speedy recovery and will be back in the Duck's line up soon.
Los Angeles Times --- Ducks forward Jason Blake was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange and was in need of sutures Friday night after suffering what was described as a severe cut on his left forearm late in the team’s 1-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks at Honda Center. added 2:27am, via Helene Elliott of the Fabulous Forum, Ducks forward Jason Blake was taken to UCI Medical Center in Orange and was in need of sutures Friday night after suffering what was described as a severe cut on his left forearm late in the team’s 1-0 victory over the San Jose Sharks at Honda Center.

Blake had lined up on the left wing for a faceoff and a few seconds later fell to the ice as bodies got tangled.
