Giants Martinez Has Concussion and Fractures

San Francisco Giants pitcher Joe Martinez has a concussion and three small fractures in his head after being hit by a line drive.

The rookie reliever was stable and alert in a San Francisco hospital Friday, and the Giants said the right-hander was expected to make a full recovery. Martinez will remain hospitalized for observation over the next three or four days.

Martinez was struck by Mike Cameron's line drive on Thursday night, and sustained hairline fractures on the right side of his face. The accident occurred with two outs in the ninth inning of the Giants' 7-1 win over Milwaukee.

The Giants put Martinez on the 15-day disabled list and purchased the contract of right-hander Justin Miller from the minors.

Two great things that go great together. The start of training camp for the New York Jets coinciding with long time Jets hater and former NFL Defensive Player of the Year Jason Taylor getting sent packing from the AFC East. Mike Nugent gained ten pounds during the off-season and claims to already notice a difference. Justin Miller and David Barrett continue to perform well in camp. Both were very impressive defending against the first team offense during the recent scrimmage. Something tells me, knowing Eric Mangini, these two guys will be rewarded for their outstanding camps despite the distractions surrounding a defensive back who is not there. And something else tells me Darrelle Revis' chances of having an impact on this team early in the season are dwindling every day he holds out. One might think Revis has a bunch of pro bowls under his belt or championship rings on his finger the way he is holding out.
