Last year I would be more skeptical then I am this season, thanks to Luis Castillo. Yes, I was one of those who wanted Castillo gone no matter what and didn't believe he could make a comeback that would convince me otherwise. Jason McCallum of ESPN Research compiled numbers bearing out the crazy injury situation the Mets have had this year: They've lost 18 All-Star appearances to the DL, in addition to 1,066 HR, 4,091 RBIs and a combined 2009 salary of $94.8 million, which is greater than the Opening Day payroll of 18 teams.

So maybe Oliver Perez really has an injured knee and wasn't just using it as an excuse for his struggles this season. Left-hander Oliver Perez will require season-ending surgery to repair patella tendon tendinosis in his right knee, the team said after he was examined Wednesday in New York. Oliver Perez pitched in a rehab game for AAA Buffalo and he was his inconsistent self. The Mets have 30 days from his first rehab start to call him up and the question is really becoming, what to do with the erratic lefty.I'm not sure what was Omar's bigger mistake but I know he made two huge ones this off-season, re-signing Ollie and not signing a left fielder. On the Heels of Oliver Perez's successful rehab outing, it's been announced that Ollie will make a start on Friday in Buffalo and if everything goes well, he could return to the team after that start.Ollie threw 73 pitches, through five shut out innings on two hits and one walk while striking out six.
