Your Move, Phils... Flyers Thrash Canes 6-1

Woo! What a game at the Wachovia Center today. Despite being outshot heavily by the visiting Hurricanes, the Flyers summarily dispatched them, 6-1. Very entertaining tilt, with 3+ fights (depending on what all you count), and the Flyers just kept finding the net. Ray Emery was up to almost every shot, and Braydon Coburn made some big strides toward regaining his role as a dangerous defenseman, scoring twice in 90 seconds. Scott Hartnell scored, assisted on two goals, and came *this close* to...

Boosh Returns to Philly Ice With a Thud; Flyers Trends to Watch

I don't usually spend much time recapping relatively meaningless regular season losses, and I'm not going to get into much detail on the Flyers' overall efforts last night. Just like the players on the ice, most of us fans just want to move on and think about something else. They got smoked by the Sharks, 4-1, at home. There you have it.

However, a few early season trends were apparent last night, and they are worthy of a look, even it's too early to think they m...

Emery and Flyers Open '09-'10 With a Shutout Win in Carolina

All you really want out of a season opener, especially on the road, is a win. There's plenty of time to work out the kinks and get comfortable with new teammates and lines, but a W really seems to speed that process up. With no shortage of questions facing a team with a handful of new players in key roles, the Flyers did just that, beating the Carolina Hurricanes in their building, 2-0. Here's a quick look at some of those key questions and the ways in which the Flyers answered them. ...

Phillies Kick Off Milwaukee Series with Issues Looming

With the Phillies and Brewers getting underway just after 8 tonight, you can get a guilt-free Flyers fix in for an hour. The Flyers will host the Devils on CSN at 7, with Ray Emery scheduled to play the whole game. For a team with a 6.5 game on their division with 11 games remaining, the Phillies aren't exactly storming into October. The Lidge situation is a total mess and nobody can come up with a workable solution -- if there even is one. Charlie has said over and over that Lidge is his ...

Ne mask for Ray Emery, goalie for the Philadelphia Flyers. Others on the mask include Joe Frasier and Rocky Balboa. Emery is a big boxing fan, who in the past has sported Mike Tyson, Muhammad Ali and Floyd Mayweather on his mask. He's also known for getting into a few scuffles himself, an oddity for a goalie. The rest of the mask is available here.

Report: Niittymaki to Sign With Ray Emery's Former Russian Club

In an interesting twist of fate, it appears that free agent goalie Antero Niittymaki will head to the Russian KHL's Atlant Mytishchi, filling the spot vacated by Ray Emery, who was recently signed to be the Flyers' starter in '08-'09. Hopefully he'll have better luck with the team's staff than Emery did. Good luck to a good guy. We'll miss Nitty.

Flyers Offseason Update

Coming off a season that saw the Flyers lose in the opening round of the playoffs to the eventual Stanley Cup champions the Flyers came into the offseason with quite a few questions to answer. With free agency starting to dry up it's time to look back at what the Flyers have done to catch up with the Penguins among other top teams. The Flyers have lacked a franchise goalie since Ron Hextall and it seems unlikely Ray Emery will be the answer to that problem but given the Flyers financial p...

Emery done as a Sen?

The troubled goalie showed up late for practice yesterday after spending the all-star break in Las Vegas and may have played his final game in an Ottawa uniform.

Emery could be facing an indefinite suspension without pay after he showed up at the rink at 4:04 p.m. yesterday for the club's 4 p.m. practice.

Could Emery be on his way out now? The question still remains how many teams would take a chance on Emery?

Ray Emergy's New Goalie Helmet - Pictures

Whether Ray Emery's new mask will help him float like a butterfly, sting like a bee remains to be seen, but maybe it will help him win back the Senators' No. 1 goaltending job.Emery, who is on a two-game winning streak, will unveil a mask sporting three-time heavyweight boxing champion Muhammad Ali tonight against the Hurricanes.

"It's good to be out of the doghouse," Emery said before the club's 90-minute flight here yesterday.

Hooray for a Hockey Brawl

In a very dull day of sports the world of hockey shines through with a nice 12 man brawl. My favorite part is the malicious smile on the Ottawa goalies face that just screams, "Dude I'm going to beat the piss out of you right now, I've been waiting my whole pro career for a fight, your done." Than he's taking punches in the face and smiling the whole time.

Ray Emery is officially the coolest player in the NHL.
