Brandon Felder: What Does Goc Signing Mean and the Final Answers to the Mailbag

The Marcel Goc signing by the Preds is being railed and hailed by some. Both sides have valid arguments of course.

Here's my view on it. You essentially replaced Scott Nichol. This moves further deepens the competition on the bottom two lines and provides some NHL experienced depth.

Now, I can't quite come to you and say this move IMPROVED the team just yet. I do know that Goc has the potent...

A steady stay-at-home defenseman with strong character, Wrenn is a smooth skater and while he’s most noted for his defensive play, he’s also efficient on the offensive side of the puck. Does a nice job jumping into the open seems when they are available and he owns a seeking right-handed point shot.
Sharks decline to extend offers to 3 forwards

The San Jose Sharks are beginning a roster makeover by declining to make qualifying offers to forwards Marcel Goc, Tomas Plihal and Lukas Kaspar.

All three forwards played much of last season for the Sharks, who finished with the NHL's best regular-season record before losing their first-round playoff series to Anaheim.

Goc, a first-round draft choice by San Jose in 2001, scored 11 points in 55 games with the Sharks last season.

San Jose Sharks 2008 Grades: Part II, Centers

Since my colleagues are unable to write to you this week, I decided to move up my installment of the Sharks Report Card. You can expect the last two to post over the first two weekends in June.

In this installment of the team grades, I analyze the skaters with the most responsibility, centers. Just like in baseball, in hockey you need to be strong up the middle, and (on paper at least) the Sharks have depth at this position?two of these players spent most of the season on the wing, as noted parenthetically.

Ehrhoff says hard work is key for Sharks

The biggest German moment in NHL history was Uwe Krupp's triple overtime, Stanley Cup-winning goal for Colorado in Game Four of the 1996 Stanley Cup finals versus Florida. But Krupp, currently coaching his country's national team, could see his "title" challenged if the San Jose Sharks win their first Cup in 2008, as many pundits expect. With a German backup goalie (Dimitri Patzold), defenseman (Christian Ehrhoff), and forward (Marcel Goc), the Bay Area franchise boasts more...
