Braydon Coburn scored twice and Scott Hartnell and Matt Carle each had a goal and two assists to help the Philadelphia Flyers snap a two game losing streak and send the Carolina Hurricanes to their eighth straight loss, 6-1 on Saturday.

Woo! What a game at the Wachovia Center today. Despite being outshot heavily by the visiting Hurricanes, the Flyers summarily dispatched them, 6-1. Very entertaining tilt, with 3+ fights (depending on what all you count), and the Flyers just kept finding the net. If last night's actions by Scott Hartnell set any precedent, then the Penguins are allowed to bite the fingers of opponents with no fear of discipline from the Garage League (sometimes known as the NHL). Witness:

Sources told cable sports network TSN that referees Eric Furlatt and Dean Morton along with linesmen Don Henderson and Jean Morin did not see the alleged incident and as such, there was insufficient evidence to further penalize Hartnell.

Hartnell told reporters he did not bite Letang, adding that "a lot of stuff happens on the bottom of the pile. He had his hands in my face doing the face wash and we're rolling around. I can't say what happened."

Of course Hartnell's not going to admit it. He may be dumb, but he's not that dumb.

It was your typical "Battle of Pennsylvania" that featured plenty of goals (including Braydon Coburn(notes) pulling a Steve Smith) and endless bad blood between the longtime division rivals. The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 5-4 last night behind Evgeni Malkin's(notes) two points and Tyler Kennedy's(notes) eventual game-winning with just under 12 minutes to play in the third period, but what would a Penguins-Flyers game be without a little controversy?...

The Flyers Flyered-up the end of Thursday night's 5-4 loss to the Penguins, and let's just say The Tanger wasn't too happy with the behavior of one Scott Hartnell. Was it a bite? Hartnell says no, but I think everyone reserves the right to be skeptical.

Yes, it was your typical Pittsburgh-Philadelphia game: ample penalties (Geno Malkin alone took four), hard hits, multiple "Crosby sucks" chants, nine goals, and flying fists - in other words, it was much more entertaining than the Pens' snoozefest with Phoenix just a night earlier.

Despite those four penalties, Geno Machine-o took home the game's #1 star with a goal and an assist. Alex Goligoski, Jordan Staal, and Bill Guerin each found the back of the net for the first time this season, and once again, Tyler Kennedy, Mr. Clutch, got the game-winner. Is there a new Mr. October in sports?

Jeff Carter wasted a four-point night for the Flyers, who lost for the first time this season despite holding Sidney Crosby pointless (and for the second night in a row - gasp). So much for Chris Pronger putting the Flyers on top, although that was a sweet misconduct he notched at the end of the game.

Each team is now 3-1, and the Pens suit up for action next on Saturday night at Toronto.

By the way, I forgot to link this the other day, but Mark Madden did a list of the Pens' top rivalries earlier this week (scroll down his page for the post), and the Flyers landed at #1. I must say, this is one tough list to compile. I could see the case for any of his top-3 to lay claim to the #1 spot.

You know you're a fan favorite when the organization puts two events on the promotions calendar celebrating something unique about you. Scott Hartnell has achieved that honor this season, first with the Phantoms mitten toss, and tonight with Scott Hartnell Wig Night. For most of my years as a Flyers fan, the players almost uniformly lived in South Jersey, which is where their practice facility is located. However, the trend of late has been for some of them to move into downtown Philly, particularly the Old City area. An NHL film crew caught up with Scott Hartnell to film him preparing a little of what he calls "chicken salad," which is not what you might think it is, but rather, some grilled chicken on a bed of greens.
