Your Move, Phils... Flyers Thrash Canes 6-1

Woo! What a game at the Wachovia Center today. Despite being outshot heavily by the visiting Hurricanes, the Flyers summarily dispatched them, 6-1. Very entertaining tilt, with 3+ fights (depending on what all you count), and the Flyers just kept finding the net. Ray Emery was up to almost every shot, and Braydon Coburn made some big strides toward regaining his role as a dangerous defenseman, scoring twice in 90 seconds. Scott Hartnell scored, assisted on two goals, and came *this close* to...

Flyers Hit the Linc Lot, and Scott Hartnell Has Just One Question: Did they get to you last night?

First off, a bit of housekeeping. Our apologies for the lack of a Flyers gamethread and recap on Saturday. It was a very busy weekend for us off of the Level, and we weren't able to get to these. We'll be sure to make it up to you. The Flyers chatter has been great so far, especially considering the Phillies are in the playoffs and the Eagles are off to a great start. It's going to be a great season for the Orange & Black. Anyway, the Flyers have a huge break in the schedule a...

NO DISCIPLINE FOR HARTNELL

If last night's actions by Scott Hartnell set any precedent, then the Penguins are allowed to bite the fingers of opponents with no fear of discipline from the Garage League (sometimes known as the NHL). Witness:

Sources told cable sports network TSN that referees Eric Furlatt and Dean Morton along with linesmen Don Henderson and Jean Morin did not see the alleged incident and as such, there was insufficient evidence to further penalize Hartnell.

Hartnell told reporters he did not bite Letang, adding that "a lot of stuff happens on the bottom of the pile. He had his hands in my face doing the face wash and we're rolling around. I can't say what happened."

Of course Hartnell's not going to admit it.
Kris Letang's Finger Gets in the Way of Scott Hartnell's Teeth

The Penguins and Flyers don't exactly exchange Christmas cards, but can't we expect some sense of decorum? By that I mean can we expect that players won't haul off and bite each other in the first month of the season?

In that scuffle in the video above, the Penguins are alleging that Philadelphia's Scott Hartnell bit Kris Letang. You can see Letang make a run for it to be treated by doctors. After the game one of his fingers was heavily bandaged. What did Har...

Is there a new Mr. October in sports?

Jeff Carter wasted a four-point night for the Flyers, who lost for the first time this season despite holding Sidney Crosby pointless (and for the second night in a row - gasp). So much for Chris Pronger putting the Flyers on top, although that was a sweet misconduct he notched at the end of the game.

Each team is now 3-1, and the Pens suit up for action next on Saturday night at Toronto.

---

By the way, I forgot to link this the other day, but Mark Madden did a list of the Pens' top rivalries earlier this week (scroll down his page for the post), and the Flyers landed at #1. I must say, this is one tough list to compile. I could see the case for any of his top-3 to lay claim to the #1 spot.

Email: Mondesishouse@gmail.com Twitter: twitter.com/mondesishouse Facebook: Facebook Group

Everyone knew it'd be a tight race. The three finalists for the Selke Trophy as the NHL's top defensive forward were all deserving, all elite two-way players. But when the votes were counted and the hardware was handed out last night in Las Vegas, it was Pavel Datsyuk who took it home. Mike Richards wasn't far off though—the vote was the closest in the history of the award, 945-942.
The Last Chapter

It was a beautiful April day. The sun was shining, the sky was clear, little pieces of green had finally started to shoot through the unbearable grey Edmontonians had become accustomed to for the past six months. Homeless people had taken the day off begging, instead choosing to carry old lady's bags and clean the sidewalks. Children held doors for elders, using old colloquialisms like "sir" and "ma'am." During the hustle and bustle of a downtown lunch rush, people...

It's Hartnell Hair Night at the Wach: Flyers Vs. Panthers

You know you're a fan favorite when the organization puts two events on the promotions calendar celebrating something unique about you. Scott Hartnell has achieved that honor this season, first with the Phantoms mitten toss, and tonight with Scott Hartnell Wig Night. Digi and I will be in attendance, hopefully among the first wave of adult fans so that we don't have to resort to subterfuging children to obtain theirs.

Scott Hartnell's Old City Deck Has a Decent View I Guess

For most of my years as a Flyers fan, the players almost uniformly lived in South Jersey, which is where their practice facility is located. However, the trend of late has been for some of them to move into downtown Philly, particularly the Old City area. An NHL film crew caught up with Scott Hartnell to film him preparing a little of what he calls "chicken salad," which is not what you might think it is, but rather, some grilled chicken on a bed of greens.
