Sharks cut 2 from training camp roster, Dan Hinote released from tryout, Alex Stalock assigned to Worcester

- The San Jose Sharks announced 2 more training camp roster cuts on Sunday. Veteran Dan Hinote was released from his professional tryout contract and goaltender Alex Stalock was assigned to San Jose's AHL affiliate in Worcester.

Hinote played in 3 preseason games and registered a goal in a 6-2 loss to Vancouver at HP Pavilion. Unfortunately he took a cross-checking penalty with 19.4 seconds left in the exhibition opener against Los Angeles, allowing Kings captain Dustin Brown to tie the ...

Sharks Make Splash, Trade for Heatley

The San Jose Sharks pulled the trigger on the deal everyone has been
speculating would take place for some time. Dany Heatley is on his way
to the Pacific Coast to be the scoring option Joe Thornton needs, and
the Sharks are shipping two younger players to Ottawa in return, Milan
Michalek and Jonathan Cheechoo. San Jose also yields a second-round pick and gets a fifth-rounder in return.
Thus the Sharks lines project as follows:
Heatley-Thornton-Devin Setoguchi, with Boyle and Huskins as the

ROSTER PREVIEW: Will the San Jose Sharks have a net gain or a net loss on the ice for opening day?

SHARKS TOP-6 PRODUCTION: 4-YEAR PTS/GP

TOP-6 FORWARDS: Two potent offensive lines powered the Sharks to the 3rd best offense in the Western Conference (257GF) and the 3rd best power play in the NHL last season (24.2%, 87-360). Barring any trades, that should continue without significant changes for the 2009-10 season. One noticeable item on the top-6 forward chart is the fact that 7 players are listed. Despite being slotted as a 3rd line winger in one offseason depth chart, Devin Setoguchi c...

Hitting the Hinote: Sharks Looking to Toughen Up

Sticking with the theme of 2009, "change" has been the word circling around the San Jose Sharks this offseason.
To some, the changes promised by General Manager Doug Wilson have not been plentiful enough.
This offseason, the Sharks have waived good-bye to forwards Mike Grier, Thomas Plihal, and Marcel Goc, as well as defensemen Christian Ehrhoff and Brad Lukowich. Both of whom were traded to the Vancouver Canucks.
San Jose has also lost the legends Jeremy Roenick and ...

Hinote Will Be In Sharks Camp

from David Pollak of Working the Corners at the Mercury News,

Add Dan Hinote’s name to the list of players about to compete for a spot on the Sharks’ revamped third and fourth lines.

The initial phase of training camp gets under way at 2 p.m. Saturday — and, yes, I’m advised the session is open to the public — when rookies skate for the first time. Veterans won’t be out there until a week from Sunday and that’s when the 32-year-old Hinote will begin trying to make San Jose the third ...

To mark the historic 40th Anniversay for the Apollo Moon Landings, I will begin this article with the infamous quote Neil Armstrong gave to the world as he made his first step on the moon's surface, "One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." While professional sports are certainly far less significant in the greater scope of human history compared to the moon landings, the Minnesota Wild still need to take one more little step so it can take its giant leap to a true ...

It wasn't the Canucks best game of the year; it was the best Hockey Game of the year PERIOD! Unfortunately if you live in Canada east of the Alberta Border you didn't get to see the best period of the 2008/09 season as you were still watching the Pens and Flyers battle it out in OT. I'm sure that was exciting, but I guaranty it didn't match what the Blues and Canucks were doing at GM Place here in Vancity. There were only 12 shots total in that epic first period, but it was th...

Kristian Huselius is Greg Loughanis, The NHL is the Angry Ukranian Judge

The NHL is not doing enough to crack down on diving. The majority of diving calls are actually reversed by the league office. Great vote of confidence to see the NHL de-legitimizing its own officials, and allowing scoring to be even more inflated.

It's sad to see the NHL devolving. A bunch of guys who couldn't even keep the league afloat for a year are changing the rules of a game that has flourished for more than a century.
