New York Jets – Sink or Swim In The Second Half?

Have you seen the standings in the AFC at the halfway point of the season? Even the most pessimistic New York Jets fan can’t proclaim their season over yet, particularly when taking the team’s schedule into consideration.
There is no question the next three games are going to be difficult. The Jets are rightfully 6.5 point underdogs this week and will be underdogs the following two weeks on the road against St. Louis and home against New England. Their final five games are against teams that I would argue the Jets are better than, despite how awful they have looked at times this season. There is no excuse for a 4-12 or 5-11 year. This team should not win less than 7 games unless they completely tank the rest of the way.
We are going to learn a ton about Rex Ryan and how his players respond to him these last 8 weeks. Do they quit and embarrass themselves in Seattle, in primetime against New England and against the mediocre slopfest that they play weeks 13-17? Or do they keep themselv...

Week 9 two-quarterback leagues

The fantasy landscape gets a bye week reprieve of sorts. With the 49ers, Jets, Patriots and Rams taking the weekend off, Tom Brady is the only significant quarterback out of action. The No. 2 QB lineup takes a hit with Alex Smith, Mark Sanchez and Sam Bradford out, but there should be plenty of replacements available in most two-quarterback leagues.

No. 2 QUARTERBACKS

1. Carson Palmer vs. Tampa Bay - Palmer has just one game so far in which he did not throw for at least 295 yards or two touchdowns. With Darren McFadden still struggling to run the ball efficiently and a defense coming to town that limits the run (6th in yards allowed) but has been burnt by the pass (31st in yards through the air), Palmer might finally combine the yards and scores into a huge outing.

2. Joe Flacco at Cleveland - Flacco threw for more than 350 yards and added a score on the ground the first time these teams met, and with the Ravens defense suddenly quite vulnerable to giving up yards and points, expect Flacco's arm to ge

Colts Authority NFL Picks Challenge Week 7

Okay, here we go again. It's Saturday. It's time for the Colts Authority NFL Picks Challenge, and we want to see your week 7 predictions - straight up, no point spread. So, between the yard work, college football, and just having a great weekend, please take a moment to tell us who you think will win this week's games. You can leave post picks in the comments, email them to marcus@coltsauthority.com, or let us know on our newly re-done Facebook page (How 'bout a "like" while you're at it?).
How did everyone do last week? I'm glad you asked.

Week 6 proved to be harder to predict...Much harder, especially for the guy writing this. Our top reader entry went 8-6 (GizzardFanny again) with a nice guy named Bryce coming in a distant but respectable second via email. As for the staff, we also took a step backward after week 5. Josh Boeke held onto his lead, with Kyle, Laura, and Brent close behind, and yours truly going 5-9.

Sawbones’ Scribings’ Week 7 NFL Injury Report

We’re halfway through the fantasy football season and the bodies are continuing to pileup in the clinic. Here’s who’s getting treated this week and how it impacts your fantasy team.
Washington WR Pierre Garcon continues to be hampered by his foot issues and has been described as a long shot to play this week against the Giants. Even the Skins defensive secondary has five guys on the injury list, so this could easily spell passing bonanza for Eli Manning and the Giants.
Garcon has been frustrating to own to say the least and patience has worn thinner than you can imagine. With the pain coming from swelling on the bottom of a toe, it’s difficult to stay upright and injections aren’t helping. It’s really close to the time to cut him loose because of this foot issue.
Giants RB Ahmad Bradshaw is dealing with a foot injury but it’s not the same one from last season. He got stepped on last week and is expected to play. What’s more concerning is the Giants are planning to use three backs (B...

The Best Moments From Week 1 Sunday

The gushing over RGIII and Peyton Manning should get underway momentarily. In the meantime, let’s take a look back at a mostly enjoyable first Sunday of the NFL season. Sure, there was that Eagles-Browns game, but I’m told the people who experienced bleeding from the eyes from watching that one should eventually experience a full recovery. To think that there’s still another six hours of football to take in tonight, even if it is brought to us by ESPN, means the euphoria can continue for one more day. At least once Peter King is dealt with.
Anyway, turns out Tom Brady didn’t actually break his nose against the Titans, and that he said he never minds a little blood. And why would he? The lush fabric lining his UGG boots makes swapping your bleeding face a sublime pleasure.
Gallery of highlights after the jump.

Fantasy Football Fix Week 15

Here are the top 5 guys that could lead you to Fantasy Championship next week.
#1. Donald Brown IND 163 Total yards 1 TD

Brown’s play of late has been pretty solid, finding the end zone in 3 of the last 4 weeks. You could have worse plays next week.
#2. Demaryius Thomas DEN 116 Receiving yards 0 TD
Thomas has seemingly become the only person who has been able to thrive in Denver’s passing attack. Don’t be scared of Tebow’s lack of passing ability. Thomas is a solid play.
#3. Kahill Bell CHI 108 Total yards 1 TD
With Marion Barber getting pushed to the wayside, Bell looks to be a solid play because he is productive in both the passing and rushing attack. The Bears also plays a Packers team, who will probably resting their starters making him a even better player.
#4. Carson Palmer OAK 367 Passing yards 1 TD
Palmer looks to be finally hitting his stride, getting his owners 200 plus yards and at least 1 touchdown. Looking at what other quarterbacks did this week, that’s actually pret

Kolb's injury likely to give Skelton another start

TEMPE, Ariz. Hold off on those Kevin Kolb return stories. It appears we jumped the gun.

Following a third straight day of limited reps, Kolb is still questionable for Sundays game in St. Louis with lingering turf toe and bone bruise issues, while backup quarterback John Skelton sure sounded like a guy about to make his fourth straight start and second in four weeks against the Rams.

"Theres a sense of familiarity," said Skelton, who is coming off a rough start last week in San Francisco in which he completed just six passes while tossing three interceptions. "You always want to redeem yourself after a game like that one."

Multiple concerns still remain for Kolb, including:

Soreness in the foot on Thursday and Friday;
The rust level after missing three straight games;
The swelling that may be created by a cross-country flight;
And the impact of the Edward Jones Domes turf on what, by all accounts, has been a very painful injury

Week 11 Risers And Fallers: Michael Bush Should Dominate Again

Michael Bush should get at least one more strong fantasy game this week against the Vikings.
RISERS
QUARTERBACK
John Skelton – ARI: While Kevin Kolb has been dealing with foot problems, Skelton has led the team to two-straight victories over the Rams and Eagles. In those two games, Skelton has averaged 268.5 passing yards, has 4 scores to 2 interceptions and also has a 300-yard game under his belt. While all this is fine and dandy, Skelton could come crashing down to Earth in this week’s game against the 49ers. Even so, Skelton deserves Riser Honors this week.
RUNNING BACK
Michael Bush – OAK: The debate continues whether Bush or Ben Tate is the best backup running back in the league. After last week’s 242 scrimmage yards against the Chargers, my money is on Bush. With Darren McFadden out again for Week 11, Bush faces a middle-of-the-road rushing defense in Minnesota. There is no way I’m keeping Bush on the bench if I didn’t have to. In the last three games, Bush is averaging a little over 5.3 yar

Skelton growing into starter's role

TEMPE, Ariz. For the first time since he took over the starting role for injured quarterback Kevin Kolb two games ago, John Skelton faced the media underneath the old shade tree at the teams practice facility. Its a Wednesday custom for the starting quarterback.

Was this a telltale sign of his elevated status? No. We wont go there. Besides, Kolb also addressed the media and he went first, destroying any symbolism that might otherwise have been overplayed.

This was just a tacit admission by the Cards that Skelton needs to be more accessible in the short term, especially since it appears he will make his third consecutive start with Kolb still battling the effects of turf toe and a bone bruise on the outside of his foot.

Kolb did some individual work Wednesday and did some drops to test his plant foot, but he is still moving gingerly, so it would be foolish to rush him back this soon.

Im just being careful, not putting too much of a strain on the foot, Kolb said. Today was my first time to throw to a guy m

Kolb could miss game with turf toe

Arizona quarterback Kevin Kolb has an ugly, painful turf toe injury, and it could cause the quarterback to miss his first game as a Cardinal.

Kolb suffered the injury on his right foot early in Sunday's game against the Baltimore Ravens, but he never came out. But he was in pain after halftime, and on Monday, some of his teammates told him it was worse than any other turf toe injury they've seen.

"I wish it was called something different than 'turf toe,'" Kolb said. "It sounds like I'm a weenie."

Kolb was in a walking boot Monday, and it's likely he will miss practice time this week.

John Skelton, the backup, could get his first start since the end of last season. It would also be Skelton's first action of this year.

Skelton suffered a high ankle sprain in training camp, missing the final two games. Rich Bartel was the No. 2 quarterback through the first five weeks, but Skelton won back the job two weeks ago.

Kolb still gives himself a chance to play Sunda
