Is Troy Smith The New Kordell Stewart?

He was a Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback for The Ohio State University, and were it not for an untimely illness, Troy Smith may have been the Baltimore Ravens’ starting quarterback last season.
Now? He may be the NFL’s next Slashback, an athlete classically trained at quarterback, but naturally gifted enough to do almost anything else on the [...]
Success with Honor and the Nittany Lions who made it happen

◊ Penn State has long been respected for its accomplishments and reputation on the football field, centered around the program and university's principle "Success With Honor." The driving force behind that ideal is that winning games isn't the most important thing, but rather, winning the right way. Today, we'll look at a few Nittany Lions that have come to embody "the Penn State way." Wally Triplett - Running Back - 1946-1948 For the football history buff...

So now that it's pretty obvious we're going to suck...

At one point, back when I was dreaming that Troy Smith would actually develop into a starting NFL QB, I was all for keeping Big Joe on the bench this year. But after seeing what our beloved 'Vens have done in 3 preseason games, it's pretty obvious we are going to SUCK DONKEY BALLS, so why not let the kid start right off the bat and learn on the job? I just don't see him getting "Boller-ized" in the process; the main reason being he would not be taking charge of a team anyone expects to go anywhere this year. Boller took over a team that still had high hopes. If this team, or any of us, have high hopes this season...we are nothing short of delusional. We have NO veteran QB, we have no OT's, our starting CB's are OLD, our backup CB's are lousy, we continually have starters missing time due to injury - most noticeable our two best offensive weapons (Heap and McGahee). I think the organization needs to shelve any playoff aspirations this season and build for a strong 2009 campaign. Starting Big Joe would only be the first step.

Smith to Get Extended Playing Time From Ravens

Since it appears that no particular quarterback is standing out from the crowd, Troy Smith will get additional playing time during the Ravens' third preseason game against the St. Louis Rams on Saturday, according to the Associated Press; team head coach John Harbaugh stated that Smith will get an extended look from the coaching staff and may possibly take all of the snaps with the first team; Harbaugh added that he may make the decision on the team's starting quarterback one week from the team's regular season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 7.

Troy Smith 's Scouting Report

Greg Seamon of the Cincinnati Bengals on Troy Smith in the draft:

"Really, he's not that fast," Seamon said of Smith. "He gets run down by defensive ends. He's not real big. He kind of stares down his targets. You didn't see those breathtaking, thread-the-needle throws [against Florida] that you'd hope to see from a top-of-the-draft quarterback."

Nope. The same process of devaluation began for Chris Leak, as well, when a fateful number was announced d...
