The Two NBA Game 7 Series Couldn't Be More Different

We get treated to two Game 7s in the first round of the NBA playoffs. Tonight, the Chicago Bulls and Boston Celtics will settle their amazing series. Tomorrow, the Miami Heat and Atlanta Hawks fight for a spot in the second round. Other than the fact that (a) both these series are going to distance and (b) both are in the Eastern Conference, there is nothing else similar in these series. The Bulls-Celtics series has been unbelievable. Five of the six games have gone down to the last possessio...

Seattle is Still a Basketball Town

Although the Sonics and the NBA are long gone, the city of Seattle still has a thriving basketball scene. High-school basketball has taken on a new form in the media's coverage of it and the increased amount of fans attending high school games.

Also, the Washington Huskies have been propelled to the top as Seattle's main attraction with their newfound success coupled with the absence of the Sonics. At the same time, Seattle U has splashed into D-1 basketball with relative success.

The High School Scene
The Greater-Seattle area plays hosts to some of the best talent in the country. Players like Peyton Siva, Abdul Gaddy, Tony Wroten, and Josh Smith have become household names among casual Seattle basketball fans. There is so much Divison-1 college basketball talent floating around Seattle. This season, may be one of the best collections of talent the state of Washington has ever had.

Seeing the King Holiday Hoopfest was one of the most exhilarating experiences of basketball I've ever witnessed. It was amazing to see so much talent on the floor at one-time. Not many cities and towns have the depth of good teams and good players that Seattle has. I encourage you to go see some High School games around your area, wherever you live.

You don't necessarily have to watch Rainier Beach or Kentwood play to see an entertaining game. Finding two decent high school squads go at it in a high school atmosphere is a priceless opportunity. With that said, admission is super cheap to games around the state, so it's just a matter of finding parking and a good seat in the bleachers.

As a resource, every Sunday, SeaTown Sports will release a schedule of must-see games around Seattle along with time and locations for each game.

College Basketball-Seattle U & UWI'd say with confidence that Seattle U's transition into Division-1 basketball is going pretty well. They don't look unprepared and overwhelmed against D-1 teams, which is a good sign. They lost by five against a really good Portland St. team, they lost by nine against a surprising Oregon St. team, and had a 10-point win against Loyola Maramount in a game played at Key Arena (their prospective future home court).

The buzz around this team is starting to gain momentum as they've received adequate media coverage from the local news' channels and local newspapers. The Redhawks play three more games at the Connolly Center (Feb: 7, 10, and 14), and then on March 3rd they have a game against UW at Hec Ed. Although this game figures to be a blow-out, this will be Seattle U's first "major" game. The circumstance and the history of this game will be the most important storyline, not the actual game.

Do I need to even mention the Huskies? They are currently the talk of the town. I expect a handful of games to sell-out at Hec-Ed considering the success of this team so far in Pac-10 play.

Yep, It's not that bad...
The Sonics' departure has been a blessing in disguise for Seattle basketball fans. It's given us a chance to witness and experience the high-school and college levels of basketball with new found appreciation and respect.
Hawks Hit the Skids

A week ago, the Atlanta Hawks rolled into Boston as the East's only remaining undefeated team. They have yet to win since.
That continued last night with a 113-96 pummeling at the hands of the Pacers in which they were beaten soundly from wire to wire.
Ten games into 2008-09, it seems that as was the story throughout last season, the Hawks' true identity remains unknown.

This is a team that didn't just jump out to a 6-0 start, but it did so with style, picking up four par...

76ers 2008-09 season schedule

The Philadelphia 76ers 08-09 season schedule was announced and it could be considered news worthy for a couple of reasons. One reason being The 76ers will play one final game at The Spectrum before it is brought to the ground. On Friday, March 13 at 7:00pm, the Sixers will take on the Chicago Bulls in the building that holds a rich history for Philadelphia. It is in that building the 76ers won games 1 and 2 on the way to winning their last NBA championship in 1983. I'm personally glad to see the 76ers team and staff pay their respects in this their 60th anniversary season.

Another notable tidbit about The Sixers schedule is that this year 7 games will be on national television. I think that is slightly more national exposure than last year and after sneaking into the playoffs they deserve it. The games shown on national tv will be played against: Orlando (twice) , Cleveland , A.I. and the Denver Nuggets , Chicago , the Pistons (who ended last years playoff appearance) , and reigning NBA champs The Boston Celtics. Other notable games include: the first road game on November 1st against Atlanta who is sure to lock things up with Josh Smith after we courted him for a little while , and March 8th when we head into Oklahoma City to play our first game there vs the transplanted Seattle Supersonics.

I'm predicting 60 wins for the guys this year , call me crazy

Catching Up

It's been a while since I've been to the yard, but I'm back now and barkin' like never before. I kinda shut down the last month of the regular season...that's why I haven't posted on here. I didn't hang out, go to movies, nothing. I wanted to make sure that I stayed focus, ate well, rested, and stayed healthy. I knew that I had to be ready for the playoffs, but now that I have played in two playoff games, I have a good feel for it and I wanted to catch up with you guys.

My family was up here about three weeks ago. Some of my cousins came up along with my old high school coach from Eastern. They came up to catch a few of my games. I always like spending time with my family because I don't get to see them or talk to them much. It was nice to just chill around the house and laugh and joke around. Whenever we get together, it's always fun because we just laugh and talk about the past-things we did back in the day.

As far as the playoffs go, I live for big games. I love the atmosphere...fans at The Garden are the best fans ever. They bring soo much energy, and I just feed off of it. I'm glad we are 2-0 right now in our series, and I'm just trying to stay focused on the goal-the championship. It was crazy because the first day that the playoffs started for us, I was in the urgent care center with my daughter. She was sick, and being the dedicated father that I am, I went to the urgent care center with her to make sure she was ok. She's fine now, and I'm glad about that. Also while he was here, me and my homie, Josh Smith, got to hang out. Even though we play for opposing teams, and it is the playoffs, we still are coo. He came over my house Tuesday, and we just hung out all day. It was nice to catch up with him.

I went to practice this morning...watched some film. Now, I'm about to lay down for a minute. I'm going over Ray's later. We're having dinner over his house. Overall, the team is better than ever right now. UBUNTU is in full effect, and our chemistry is crazy! My job now is to just stay focused, play team ball, and win this thing. I'll be back to the yard soon...I'll holla!

A Tribute to Josh Smith
