No. 1 Star: Jonas Gustavsson(notes), Toronto Maple LeafsCongratulations to the Leafs, who are now clearly the 29th-best team in the NHL after defeating fellow cellar-dweller the Carolina Hurricanes, 3-2, with a three-goal rally (video). Gustavsson was outstanding on several of his 34 saves, including 18 he made in the third period against a still-determined Canes team.
"The boos weren?t too bad out there. I got it much worse when I played here. It was fine.? - Florida Panthers d-man Bryan McCabe on the reaction from Leaf fans upon returning to Toronto. McCabe spent seven seasons with the Leafs. Some good, some bad.

Hey, MontrA(c)al Canadiens fans, remember when you sat there all smug and haughty, when Bryan McCabe was unravelling in Toronto? Karma is a hideous bitch goddess sometimes. The best part? It was a phantom penalty call.

I have no idea. It's not my business . . . you're asking the wrong guy?"
What Bouwmeester may not be admitting is that the general speculation is that M

?
Ok, it's barely a rumor anymore, since the Toronto Maple Leafs will be making it official later today, but it looks like Toronto's favorite biatch is heading for warmer pastures. Bryan McCabe, perhaps one of the league's most expensice defensive liabilities is now someone else's problem. Florida's

Trade Analysis: Bryan McCabe

by JesThe Toronto Maple Leafs continued their detox cleansing by dumping frumpy Bryan McCabe and his bad hairstyle on the Florida Panthers in exchange for Mike Van Ryn and a draft pick. It's no secret that I'm not a fan of McCabe's game. Yes, he puts up a pile of points, and is great on the Power Play, but his defence is atrocious, and he, far too often, goes out of position to make a big hit. Ever since his famed "can opener" was cracked down upon, McCabe's idea of d...

WILL KUBINA REMAIN A LEAF? ONLY 3 DAYS LEFT TO DECIDE

by Mike Jack, Mike Jack's Hockey Articles As Toronto Maple Leafs General Manager Cliff Fletcher promised, there have been many changes made to his team this off season. Veterans have left the team in favour of younger players with growing potential. One player who has been the subject of trade rumours but still remains with the team is veteran defenseman Pavel Kubina. However, if the team wishes to trade him, they'll have to do it by August 15th. That's when Kubina's no trade...

DEAR BRYAN MCCABE, WHY ARE YOU STILL IN TORONTO?

Dear Bryan McCabe,

Why are you still in Toronto?

I mean, I understand why you originally wanted to play in Toronto. It is the center of the hockey universe. There are more hockey fans in Toronto than any other city in the world. I also understand that you're from St. Catharines, Ontario and grew up a Maple Leaf fan.

One thing about playing in the center of the hockey universe though is that there are more eyes watching you than in any other NHL market, and these eyes do not forge...

How to fight when you don't want to fight

Inspired by Jonathan Roy, this blog post looks at what to do when forced to fight. The nine options range from the good ("beat down opponent, then leave like it was no big deal," aka the Mr. Miyagi) to not-so-good ("defecate on ice, fling poo," aka the Sean Avery). Helpful YouTube clips of pro athletes demonstrating each method are included.

Bryan McCabe: Beyond the Criticism

Ever since signing his new contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Bryan McCabe has become public enemy number one with the fans and especially the media. While John Ferguson Jr. took most of the blame for the team that was assembled this year, Bryan McCabe took a lot of the blame for the Leafs' on ice performance. Many will remember the infamous October 17th edition of the Toronto Sun newspaper that had McCabe's picture on the front page with the headline reading "Brian McKlutz."

Just when it looked like things couldn't get any worse for McCabe this season, he broke his left hand in three places in a 4-1 loss to the Canadiens. McCabe would ultimately miss 23 games with the injury.

Many Leaf fans actually didn't mind, some even had a ridiculous idea that somehow the Leafs would be a better team with Bryan McCabe watching from home. They were wrong, very wrong.

With Bryan McCabe out of the line-up this season the Leafs have a record of (7-13-3).

With Bryan McCabe dressed and playing this season the Leafs have a record of (23-17-7)

He doesn't look so bad now does he?

Will This Deadline Cause Another Big Splash?

The most popular of these rumors has been the possibility of defenseman Bryan McCabe returning to Long Island. McCabe, who was an Islanders 2nd round draft pick in 1993, has been ridiculed by the Toronto media for his recent play and his bloated contract. McCabe is set to make $7 million dollars this and next year which could be the potential stumbling block in trade negotiations. However, it is not the only snag. McCabe also has a full no-trade-clause and would have to waive it to be traded. Another potential problem could be the asking price on the part of the Maple Leafs. If the Leafs want more than 1 of the Islanders top young defensemen or prospects, the Islanders may have to balk.

Fire Ferguson, hire Steve Simmons as next Leafs GM

In Toronto, as we all know, the dream of winning a Stanley Cup for the first time in more than 40 years takes priority over combating international terrorism, finding a cure for AIDS, and putting the brakes on global warming. (Among other back-burner issues.)

With that unwavering focus in mind, Toronto Sun sports columnist Steve Simmons takes the old adage of "tell 'em what you're going to tell 'em, then tell 'em, and then tell 'em what you told 'em" and e...
