The Ducks are Elite

When you look at the Ducks from a statistical standpoint, you can break their team down in to three segments. The first segment spans from the beginning of the season until December 15th. During that span the Ducks were 15-15-4, and were outscored by their opponents 85-99. The poor play from the defending Stanley Cup champions was heavily attributed to the loss of retired players Scott Niedermayer and Teemu Selanne.

Neidermayer gets "maintenance" day off from practice

It was what the Ducks, in particular Coach Randy Carlyle, are fond of calling "maintenance." Defenseman Scott Neidermayer skipped practice Friday according the to the Los Angeles Times.

The Ducks said there is no cause for alarm but more an eye fixed on the schedule — back-to-back games starting here tonight and Sunday in Vancouver — to merit the defenseman sitting out practice.

"It hasn't been easy, there's no question," said Niedermayer, who logged 21 minutes 37 seconds against the Oilers on Thursday. "There's been a few different issues I'm working through."

When will Neidermayer play a game?

There is one overriding question these days in the Ducks locker room: When will Scott Niedermayer play in his first game this season?

"It's a secret," Coach Randy Carlyle said with a grin after Thursday's practice at the Honda Center. "Does Kohl's tell Macy's" its secrets? "We are not going to make any statement about when Scott Niedermayer" is going to play a game.

So when will he play?

Selanne leaning towards return?

Citing a source, who spoke on the basis of anonymity, TFP Columnist Dennis Bernstein has learned that winger Teemu Selanne is seriously considering a return to the Ducks.

The 37-year-old native of Helsinki, Finland played a major role for the Ducks last season, helping them capture their first Stanley Cup in franchise history.

Selanne, whose wife recently gave birth to a baby girl, has been contemplating whether or not he wants to return to the Ducks for the 2007-08 campaign

Thoughts?
