Just wondering is it true that Michael Peca will show up at Sabres training camp this weekend? Rumors circulating all around Buffalo have mike showing up at Sabres training camp as a walk on player trying to make the team. If this is true, I feel this would improve the Buffalo Sabres locker room leadership as well as improve special teams. This team lacks leadership! even though the Sabres added Mike Grier in the offseason, the Sabres still lack the grit players needed for a long playoff run....

Flyers Claim Thoreson from Oilers

This isn't the big acquisition we have been waiting for. In another minor roster move, the Flyers claimed forward Patrick Thoreson off waivers from the Edmonton Oilers. Thoreson is small, but he is a playmaker that can play on the wings or at center. He's 24, and according to TSN he has the potential to be a top-six forward some day. He has played 85 career NHL games, and scored 6 goals and added 13 assists.

Michael Peca is on the verge of signing a one-year incentive laden deal with the Columbus Blue Jackets according to the Columbus Dispatch. This is a move which ends speculation that the 33-year old center would be playing on Broadway during the upcoming season. 'We had a deal in place with the Rangers for almost three weeks now,' Peca said in the Columbus Dispatch. 'It just doesn't seem like the commitment has been there from the general manager (Glen Sather) to get it done.'

Michael Peca is interested in becoming a member of the New York Rangers, but has given the team a deadline by which they need to sign him otherwise he will consider other offers. "We're probably going to force the issue by (today). If I can't reach him (today), we'll just go our separate way," Peca's agent Don Meehan told the NY Daily News. "I've tried to reach him (yesterday and Sunday) and can't. And I'm working with time constraints now. I've got to find out where he stands." The two-time Selke Trophy winner certainly has interest in coming into New York. "Obviously, over the last few years they've added some players that can contribute to a pretty good squad. I think anybody on the outside would look at that situation and hope there's a fit."

After the Islanders barely made the playoffs last year then made a quick exit once in, they hoped to use this off-season to retool and make another run at it next year. Yesterday was a cruel step in the wrong direction. With these subtractions to the team and the only addition being Jon Sim, and possibly the return of Michael Peca, the Islanders playoff hopes for the upcoming season look to be dead.

Yashin's Exit Could Open Door for Smyth, Peca

According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, league sources have indicated that impending free agent Ryan Smyth had let it be known that he "would not consider re-signing with the Islanders if [Alexei] Yashin remained with the team for even a portion of the remaining four years of his contract." So much for the theory that the buy-out was engineered to appease the fans. Brooks also reports that former Islanders captain Michael Peca could look to return to the Island and reunite with head coach Ted Nolan, for whom he played in Buffalo. Peca played last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and like Smyth, is an impending free agent this offseason. Peca, too, could be swayed by the buy-out of Yashin. The pair did not mesh well during their tenure together.
