It's just too easy to rip sporting officials sometimes. We've always been taught otherwise, but when you're right you're right, and when you're wrong... you're allowing goals to pass through the side of the net.

In the middle of the NHL Playoffs, FIO staff writer Rob Edwards has already started to look ahead to the hockey offseaon and next year. Creating somewhat of a wish list, Edwards lays the foundation of some of the things he'd like to see happen in the NHL. From more TV time to Rick Nash playing with a real center, "I'd like to see..."

Richards best game as a Star

Brad Richards is showing that he was a better deadline accusation than the Sharks Brian Campbell, at least in the playoffs. Even though Richards didn't play a great game in the first game he came out firing on all cylinders in the third period of game two. He first tied the game 2-2 when Joe Pavelski took a pass in his own zone and lost an edge and gave up the puck when it looked like Richards had him lined up for a big hit. Richards took the puck and buried it past Evgeni Nabokov only 32 seconds into the third. Next he helped Sergei Zubov set up Mike Modano for a one timer on the powerplay that was blasted past Nabby. Then it looked as if Nabby took the rest of the game off cause he let in a bad goal when Richards centered the puck from behind the net and Niklas Hagman scored his first goal of the playoffs on the short side. Richards finished off his 4 point third period with an assist on Hagam's empty net goal and yet was not picked as one of the 3 stars of the game. I don't know who picks the 3 stars but I don't think he watched this game.

Richards a good fit in Dallas?

When Dallas fans first got a glimpse of Brad Richards, they were treated to a magnificent display of offensive talent. In his first game in a Stars uniform Richards assisted on 5 of the 7 goals that the Stars scored and critics were raving about the wonderful trade new co GM's Les Jackson and Brett Hull made. Then everything came crashing down for Richards and the Stars as they went 2-7-2 and he had only 6 points in that stretch. But the Stars didn't get Richards to get them into the playoffs, they brought him there because of his playoff history with Tampa Bay. In 2004 he scored 12 goals including 7 game winners as he lead the Lightning to the Stanley Cup. The Stars are hoping Richards can find his stroke again soon cause they know their going to need him to get past the defending champion Anaheim Ducks.

Stars falling, Sharks swimming

This game tonight is between two teams that have been going in different directions since both traded for big time name players on Feb. 26th. The San Jose Sharks picked up Brian Campbell from Buffalo and haven't looked back on the deal once. Since the Sharks picked him up they have gone 12-0-2 and Campbell has 13 points and a plus 7 rating. The Dallas Stars on the other hand have been in a tailspin ever since they plucked Brad Richards from Tampa Bay. They are losers of their last 4, and 7 of their last 8. Richards hasn't been playing too bad, 2 goals and 7 assists in his 9 games but it's his -2 rating and their inability to score on the power play that has the Stars searching for answers with only 6 games left before the playoffs.

What the Puck?

The trade deadline has come and passed and I would argue that it was not quite as monumental as many expected. Although Marian Hossa, Brad Richards, and Brian Campbell moved, Olli Jokinen, Alex Tanguay, Michael Ryder, Rob Blake, John Michael-Liles and many other "expected" trades did not occur. Nonetheless, the deadline was full of some surprises and there were definitely many winners and losers, both teams and players, on the deadline. In this edition of What the Puck? I will take a look at some of the winners and losers and the fantasy impact.

The Top 5 Trade Deadline Deals: 2008

Now that the trade deadline has come and gone, and there has been about a week for each teams newly acquired players to settle in with their new clubs, it is time to really sit back and evaluate what were the best deals of the 2008 deadline. This ranking is based on whether both teams of a certain deal benefited, whether it is now or in the future. Pittsburgh took the biggest risk of the deadline, Dallas certainly has benefited so far with Brad Richards having 5 assists in his first game with the club and Brian Campbell was clearly distraught about leaving the Sabres, so without further adu, here are the 2008 Trade Deadline Top 5 Deals, where does your teams deal rank?

AccuScore: Will Hossa Bring the Penguins a Cup?

The trade deadline means different things to fans of different teams. If you're a fan of Atlanta or Tampa Bay, you're dealing with the loss of one of your star players. If you're a fan of Detroit or New Jersey then your playoff-bound team made a deal, but it was just a minor one. If you're a fan of Montreal, then you spent the whole day Tuesday hitting refresh on message boards and trade sites, waiting for Marian Hossa to arrive, only to see him go to the Penguins at the last second. And if you're a fan of the Penguins, Stars, or Capitals, then your team made a huge move and you must be elated. AccuScore's Tim Williams reviews the top moves, and how these moves affect the teams that made them.

Here yesterday, gone today

The 2006-2007 NHL trade deadline had just as many transactions, but few of the superstar names. This year, with over 25 trades made in a day, and a busy month of February, some teams scored big–others, not so much. We look at some of the better deals and how helpful they will be.
