The Pittsburgh Penguins won their 1st Sid-less game in the Crosby Era on Saturday night as they shutout the Canadiens 2-0 in Montreal. Pittsburgh netminder Dany Sabourin picked up his 2nd career shutout as turned aside 31 shots in his first start in the last 12 Penguins' outings (since Dec 21st). His first career shutout came earlier this season against the New Jersey Devils on November 5th. The win elevated the Penguins into sole possession of 1st place in the Atlantic Division and 2nd place in the Eastern Conference, ahead of the New Jersey Devils. Over the past couple of weeks, he has earned the gratitude of Pittsburgh fans by posting a 7-0 record (2 shutouts), a 0.939 save percentage, and a 2.0 Goals Against Average (GAA). His remarkable play has displaced backup tender Dany Sabourin and eased the fears of Pittsburgh fans who watched in horror as Marc-Andre Fleury departed the lineup in early December for 6-8 weeks with an ankle injury. It is time to take a look at 3rd string goaltender Ty Conklin who has risen up out of the ashes of relative anonymity to become one of the key elements in the turnaround of the Pittsburgh Penguins season. I've posted a new poll question today, with the injury to Marc-Andre Fleury lasting between six to eight weeks, would you like to see GM Ray Shero acquire a goaltender. I guess that also in a sense is a confidence vote for Dany Sabourin and Ty Conklin.

Penguins escape Long Island with 3-2 win

The Penguins got a much-needed Atlantic Division win tonight on Long Island with a 3-2 victory over the Islanders. Rookie Tyler Kennedy continued his good play with the game-winning goal and two assists. Dany Sabourin got the win with 27 saves on the night.

Pens Fall to Avalanche 3-2

The Pittsburgh Penguins lost a hard fought battle against the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night, despite taking a 2-0 lead after the first period on a pair of goals by Sidney Crosby. The Avalanche, winning by a score of 3-2, kept their home unbeaten streak alive at 6 games to match a Franchise record set set in 1994-95, while the team was still in Quebec. Unlike many games so far this season, the Penguins came out looking very much ready to play in the first period. Despite being outshot 12-9 in the period and having to kill off a lengthy 5-on-3 on penalties to Staal and Crosby, goaltender Dany Sabourin really shined and kept the puck out of the Penguins net. The Penguins pulled out the tough shootout victory tonight at home against the Carolina Hurricanes. Dany Sabourin played well between the pipes, getting the start thanks to the back-to-back games on Pittsburgh's schedule. Marc-Andre Fleury should get the start tomorrow evening against the Washington Capitals. (continued)
