Reports surfaced yesterday that the Minnesota Wild were offering a package that included Mikko Koivu, Nick Schultz and Tyler Cuma to Ottawa for Dany Heatley and a sack of potatoes. Anyone who has an ounce of sense, including my 9 year old son, knows this to be a made up rumor. Here is my exchange with said 9 year old:Me: Someone is saying the Wild may trade The Captain for Dany Heatley.Son: That's crazy. Heatley's a dork. I saw this rumor over the Hockey Wilderness. I have to wonder about this rumor. First there was a buzz about this rumor on the Internet last night about the Senators moving Heatley to the Wild but nothing about it on Russo Rant's. Michael Russo is ussually dialed in on what is going on with the Minnesota Wild. Another rumor that was floating around last night had Bret Burns going to the Senators but that rumor has since been squashed and now it's Koivu being traded in a package deal to the Senators for Heatley.
Here we sit, the night before the deadline in the Dany Heatley sweepstakes and it sounds like the Minnesota Wild have tabled an offer that will be tough for Murray to turn down. While the proposed deal does not include stud defenceman Brent Bruns, it does apparently include Mikko Koivu, Nick Schultz and Tyler Cuma. Rumours are there would be other pieces involved both on Ottawa's end as well as Minnesota's. Sounds like the swap could include a salary dump on Ottawa's end and potentially Colton Gillies coming back from Minnesota. By all indications there is a very solid offer coming from Minnesota although Ottawa is trying to see if they can include Martin Havlat in the package. Even if the Wild decide not to include Havlat, they will still have a very legitimate offer on the table for Heatley. [SensChirp]

Per Mark Christopher of hockeybuzz.com and senschirp.ca, the Minnesota Wild may have offered Mikko Koivu, Nick Schultz and Tyler Cuma in a last minute offer in an attempt to procure the services of Dany Heatley. Apparently, these are just the major names involved, but that the deal could also involve more than just Heatley coming back to the Wild in a "salary dump" for Ottawa. I would be curious...

Check the list of walking wounded for the Minnesota Wild seems like most of them will be rehabing injuires for a good part of the summer. They will be lucky to field a full team next fall. You have to wonder if the push to make the playoffs took a big toll on the Wild. I don't know how they could have competed if they had made the playoffs.
Look at this rehab list as of now:

Niklas Backstrom — out four to six months following hip surgery Friday

Brent Burns — post-concussion syndrome and shoulder surgery Thursday that will require four months to heal.

Andrew Brunette — reconstructive knee surgery, out four to six months

Derek Boogaard — shoulder surgery Tuesday, out two months

Pierre-Marc Bouchard — concussion

(the way the B’s are dropping, Marc-Andre Bergeron better be careful walking across the street)

Nick Schultz — concussion

Tyler Cuma — still recovering from knee surgery

Oops, forgot Dan Fritsche - broken collarbone

Oh, and I forgot a fairly major one: Mikko Koivu — sprained knee
