Penguins Look to Outrun Avalanche

The Pittsburgh Penguins (6-4-1) head into game 2 of a 4-game road trip on Thursday night with a stop in Denver to take on the streaking Colorado Avalanche (7-4-0). After notching a win against a depleted Wild on Tuesday, the Penguins will be looking to capitalize off the momentum gained in Minnesota to win their 2nd straight game and their 4th straight road game. They will have their work cut out for them as they take on the Avs, who have not yet lost a game at home this season.
Colorado is in the midst of a 3-game winning streak having beat Minnesota 3-1 on Sunday, and improved to 5-0-0 at the Pepsi Center for the first time since moving from Quebec in 1995. Avs' Winger Ryan Smyth, acquired via free agency over the offseason, has 7-points (3G, 4A) in the last 4 home games and has been spark behind Colorado's red hot home start. Joe Sakic, who has 5-points (1G, 4A) in the last 5 games, has excelled against....click the link to read the rest of the article.

Race and sports

The question was posed about Race and sports- being are blacks better athletes.

Over and over - look people this isn't a white and black world. first of all, I don't see any Black or white people. I see brown, and tan, colors with pigments not just white and black.
This is the easiest way to dilute racism, I played sports but I am on the computer right now instead of resting for my big game tonight and I'm black.

Latins, Asians, and all other ethnicities are good at what they practice hard at. The main reason Blacks are so concentrated in sports is that the main option for them in society. Public schools, condition blacks to play sports and not read. make it easy for blacks to go far in sports but not in education and learning. It s an easy way to hold a person back.

Entertainment has always been the Neo-black free mans way of suvival. From bojangles, to Barry Bonds, the Afrcan was brought here for work, not leisure. Honestly. ALthough he had honor in his land, the neo african has no idea in large part of it.

SO the neo african has to pave roads in his new environment, prove his place and gain respect.

NO the balck man is not better in anything, but neither is any other race at anythng, its all individual, all with the same opportunity to achieve have the same opportunity to acheive higher than the other.

Peace. AMERICA GET YOUR MIND RIGHT YA HEARD

So-Long Islanders

After the Islanders barely made the playoffs last year then made a quick exit once in, they hoped to use this off-season to retool and make another run at it next year. Yesterday was a cruel step in the wrong direction.

With these subtractions to the team and the only addition being Jon Sim, and possibly the return of Michael Peca, the Islanders playoff hopes for the upcoming season look to be dead.

Isles Jilted Again...Smyth Signs in Colorado

Captain Canada is now Captain Colorado, as Ryan Smythhas signed a five-year deal with the Avalanche, joining the on-going free agent exodus off of Long Island. Viktor Kozlov, Tom Poti, Richard Zednik, and Jason Blake all left the Island as well. But Islanders' GM Garth Snow did agree to terms with former-Thrasher Jon Sim. So he's got that going for him.

Smyth Crumbles for the Avalanche

10:45pm last night, GM Garth Snow received a phone call from Ryan Smyth's agent, notifying him that Smyth would sign with Colorado, along with Scott Hannan who was also courted by the Isles. Says Snow, "At least one offer is out at this time to a veteran all-star. At least one." Peca?

...Kariya to the Blues. Next yr's gonna be a fresh tossed salad of new players on new teams, which means I gotta form new alliances. Now Joffrey Lupul and Jason Smith are Flyers with Danny Briere?! Brian Rafalski's now w/Detroit, who traded away Mathieu Schneider to perhaps replace Scotty Niedermayer! And Poti, Kozlov, Zednick NO LONGER ISLANDERS EITHER? SJ's lady's man Scott Hannan to the Avs. Smyth, Souray...?

Souray, McCabe To The Strong

Where IS Sheldon Souray going? Will someone please tell me!? Souray's been called "a defensive liability" but brings momentum to a power play. If the Isles can't hold on to Smyth, some other big name must take his place. Bryan McCabe is a contender along side Souray on defense, but the Isles seem to have a lot of D, though most were suspended or injured at last season's end. I think we might be surprised just as we were when we got Ryan Smyth in the first place.

Leafs May Change Colors In A Year...

But for now, Cpt Mats Sundin's still on Toronto for a year. They've made one move; how many more to come? The Dominator'll have his decision by week's end! The Stanley Cup champ Ducks (say it out loud) also re-signed Moen and Parros. We're all still waiting to hear on Gomez, Briere, Drury and Smyth. Sharks got 2 top goalies & may dangle one into open waters to fish for a top forward above. All that really matters is that the Isles don't have Yash; I'd almost rather not have Smyth than have Yash. Jason Blake's legit, but doesn't have true Islander heart & personality. If ya wanna know who's who in the NHL, wait til 6/14 to see who wins which individual trophy.

Yashin's Exit Could Open Door for Smyth, Peca

According to Larry Brooks of the New York Post, league sources have indicated that impending free agent Ryan Smyth had let it be known that he "would not consider re-signing with the Islanders if [Alexei] Yashin remained with the team for even a portion of the remaining four years of his contract." So much for the theory that the buy-out was engineered to appease the fans.

Brooks also reports that former Islanders captain Michael Peca could look to return to the Island and reunite with head coach Ted Nolan, for whom he played in Buffalo. Peca played last season with the Toronto Maple Leafs, and like Smyth, is an impending free agent this offseason. Peca, too, could be swayed by the buy-out of Yashin. The pair did not mesh well during their tenure together.
