Which Injured Bruins Player’s Absence Will Have the Biggest Impact Against Montreal?

The Bruins might have an edge in the standings as they play Montreal on Wednesday night, but the Canadiens should have a clear edge when it come to the trainer’s table.
Boston will be without Brad Marchand, Daniel Paille and Shawn Thornton as they head to the Bell Centre, after a slew of injuries has beset the B’s.
Marchand traveled with the team, and even participated with the team at the morning skate, but it appears that a nagging shoulder injury will prevent him from playing in the divisional matchup. The means the B’s will have to deal with Carey Price and Co. without the services of their top goal scorer.
They will also be without Paille, who is dealing with an upper body injury, and did not even travel north of the border. The fourth-line forward will be replaced by call-up Jared Spooner, who will be seeing his first action of the NHL season if called upon.
Of course, the Bruins will also miss Shawn Thornton, who was ruled out after sustaining a concussion during a fight with...

Stars' youth forcing their way on the ice

In an effort to make sure you are reading enough about the Dallas Stars and the NHL, I plan on henceforth to offer my "bag of pucks" to you on a weekly basis throughout the season. This will be a series of thoughts and opinions and stuff off youtube that might enhance your hockey experience. Enjoy.

IMPERFECT ATTENDANCE FROM TOP 6

Certainly, the start of the Stars season has not achieved the best case scenarios in our head about their potential team performance. If making the playoffs this season is a step in the right direction, then 9 points in the first 10 games is just not going to get you there. They are certainly not in horrible shape, but you would like to think early in the season they would not already be trying to figure out creative ways to work their way into the top 8.

Of course, there are plenty of valid and creative excuses. For instance, their top 2 centers played in their first game together last night. Jamie Benn and Derek Roy actually combined for the game winning goal and for t

The Blackhawks Battle With the Canucks in Anoth...

If you ever thought there was a goaltending controversy in Chicago, the Vancouver Canucks one-upped the Blackhawks in that department.

Last summer the Canucks organization decided to publicize Cory Schneider's promotion as their starting netminder, leaving Roberto Luongo as trade fodder. Little did they know, no team out there is willing to give anything of value for a goaltender that will dent the salary cap with starting salary until he turns 43 after the 2021-2022 season. Luongo was so desperate to find a new team he actually stated that he liked Chicago. Nobody took a chance on Bobby Lou, so this forced Mike Gillis to keep Luongo on the Canucks as a back-up heading into this season, and sticking by his notion that Cory Schneider will be the starter. If you can see where this is going, keep note and award yourself some points.

Tonight marks the eighth game of the season for both teams, and also the fourth start for Roberto Luongo. Not even a quarter into the season and they...

Sabres Charge 7-4, Bruins First Lost of the Season

Vanek Destroyed the Bruins Tonight With 3 Goals and 2 Assists

Boston Ma, The game basically started as Shawn Thornton scuffled with Buffalo goon John Scott. Thornton was man handled by the 6 ft 8in 270lb Scott and consequently would miss the rest of the game. The first intermission hit with the game scoreless.

Second period saw some fiesty play from both sides. Thomas Vanek broke open the flood gates with a goal a minute 38 seconds in. The Bruins would then answer with 3 of their own one from Peverley and 2 from Marchand. Marchand had a highlight worthy goal as he swooped in from the wing making a sweet toe drag and finishing it by Ryan Miller. A two man advantage led to a Buffalo 5 on 3 power play goal by Thomas Vanek and moments later Tyler Ennis would tie it up, leaving the game tied at 3 going into the third.

The Bruins started with energy, and Krejci quickly answered with a goal from the slot. Again Buffalo would surge back as Alexander Sulzer tied it back up. Vanek again w...

What history says about the Hurricanes players: Depth forwards

Yesterday we took a prolonged look at the historical projections for the Carolina Hurricanes top-six forwards to get an idea of what to expect from them in the upcoming season and today, we will do the same for the team's other forwards. As of right now, many of the Hurricanes bottom-six forward spots are unknown and it's even tougher to figure out who will make the team when you consider that there will be no training camp or pre-season. We know that players like Chad LaRose, Jiri Tlusty, Patrick Dwyer, Tim Brent and maybe a couple others are likely guaranteed spots on the team but there are still a few fringe players who could end up spending most of the year in the AHL. The good news is that Rob Vollman has historical projections available for any player who has played at least one game in each of the last two seasons*, so most of Carolina's roster is in the database.
Remember, these historical projections are meant to set a high and low point for the upcoming season...

Delaware State Women’s Golf Schedule Announced for 2012-13

By David A. Wilauer
Special to The Capital Sports Report
In their first year of the golf program, head coach Scott Thornton on Thursday has announced the inaugural schedule for 2012-13 Delaware State University women’s golf squad.
Delaware State
The Lady Hornets will be stepping on the golf course for the first time in the squad’s history and will be playing in five fall tournaments this year.
“I feel the tournaments we have schedules will be very aggressive,” commented Thornton. “We have entered some very strong events, but I have recruited a team that I feel will be very competitive and represent Delaware State University well.”
The Lady Hornets will open their season with the Tignanelli Towson Invitational to be held from September 8 to 10 at the Towson Golf and Country Club. The field of 18 will include Towson, St. John’s, William and Mary and defending champion Old Dominion then the squad will then travel to Charleston, S.C. for the South Carolina State Invitational, held at Patriots Poin

Toronto Maple Leafs Looking At Yet Another Lost Season: But A Lottery Pick Is In Sight!

“What could have been?”
These four words have haunted many a Toronto Maple Leaf fan for decades.
The 2011-12 season has had its fair share of “what ifs”, including “what if Toronto Maple Leafs general Brian Burke had the foresight to add a veteran goaltender to the roster this summer?”, to the question that is on everyone’s mind these days, “what if the Maple Leafs had avoided their late season collapse?”
As the 2011-12 season inches closer to the end, it appears as if, barring a miracle from the hockey Gods, that the Maple Leafs will miss the playoffs for the seventh straight season.
The way things are going Toronto fans, can no longer scuff at the suggestion that their beloved Maple Leafs may go an entire decade without participating in the playoffs.
Sound crazy? Perhaps, but keep in mind, the Maple Leafs are not far off and with the team just a few weeks from setting new record for futility, the threat of missing the playoffs for ten straight seasons is a real possibility.
Sure, ...

Sutter joins NHL's coaching carousel

Although Darryl Sutter hasn't coached in the NHL since the 2005-06 season, he didn't need much time to get back into the swing of things on his first day with the Los Angeles Kings.

Sutter ran his first practice Wednesday morning at the club's training facility after a meeting with the players, then was introduced to the media during a news conference at a nearby hotel and said: ''I feel like I coached yesterday.''

A stern, no-nonsense coach known for his confrontational demeanor and perpetual scowl behind the bench during his 12 previous seasons with Chicago, San Jose and Calgary, Sutter has been known to criticize his players in postgame sessions with the media. He did it once with Flames defenseman Andrew Ference after a 4-1 loss to the Kings in Los Angeles, referring to him as ''a borderline competitor for us for a number of games.''

''Hopefully it jump-starts them,'' Sutter said. ''One thing that hasn't changed in the game and nev

"Alright... Ryan Smyth is so old that his birth certificate says 'expired.'"
"Ha, good one Taylor!"
"Ryan Smyth is so old, that his home phone number is 1."

I don't know about you guys... but maybe Thursday night wasn't the right time to break out the 2007-2008 Heritage Throwback Jerseys ... because the Los Angeles Kings really played like they were trying to honor that team.

Replace Ethan Moreau with Scott Thornton and it's pretty much a game from 2007.
Of course, the big news last night was the return of Ryan Smyth, who stated that one of the main reasons he wanted to leave LA was to experience the four seasons again. I think that&#...
