Red Wings drop Predators 3-1

Detroit out played Nashville in both ends of the ice. The Predators played strong for about the first half of the first period and then started turning over the puck. The Predators were having trouble getting the puck out of their zone and when they did manage to gain the Detroit zone cycled very well but only managed 20 shots for three periods of action.

Hockey Players Don't Learn..Will They Now?

After the Boulerice suspension...will shots to the head vanish? I don't know. One thing I do know is something else needs to be done besides what is being done now.

The Tootoo - Weller Situation

My take, and I'll try to be as objective as possible since I'm not a Jordin Tootoo fan, is this: Tootoo's hit on Daniel Winnik was clean, dangerous maybe because of the attention to hits to the head, but clean nonetheless. Winnik had his head down and Tootoo led with his shoulder and followed through. It looked like he came up high with his elbow, but I think the damage would have been more severe if he used his elbow to hit Winnik's head.

I have more of an issue with the other two Predators players pushing Winnik down on the ice as Winnik was getting the number of the train that clocked him, especially Greg de Vries pushing the back of Winnik's head.

So I do understand Craig Weller's actions for sticking up for a teammate.

However, if Weller wanted to cause more damage, he certainly could have. I don't categorize the penalty in the same classification as Steve Downie or Jesse Boulerice.

Remember, Tootoo is no angel.

Tootoo has many friends around the NHL, most notably Mike Modano. "I am this country bumpkin and he's an Eskimo," says Pickler, who plans to visit his central Canada hometown this summer.
Tootoo Bowed Out; NHL's Wearing the Skirt

Where's the tradition & the "I went to a fight and a hockey game broke out?" There've been fewer Gordie Howe hat tricks lately since before Gordie Howe! Will the band "Five for Fighting" have to find a new name? This "new NHL" seems like it's on it's way to banning "the fight!" What do you think about the new rules on (1) the shootout? (2) getting higher scoring? (3) less fighting?
