Men's 4x100 Relay Win First Pac-10 Title Since 1998

For the first time in 11 years, the Pac-10 4x100m relay crown belongs to the Bruins as the foursome of Jamal Alston, Karlton Rolle, Stan Griffin and Brandon Smith edged out crosstown rival USC for the title at the Pac-10 Championships in Eugene, OR to highlight the men's squad. The men finished fifth with 90 points, while Oregon won with 158 points.Source: UCLA Official Website Submitted By: hiltigger Direct Link

Unverified Voracity Seeks Reins

Whoah, nellie. The basketball teams is popping up on a number of early top 25 lists, which seems justifiable with only walk-ons and noncontributors on the way out and someone, anyone taller than 6'4" on the way in. I'd slot them just outside, but I can see sticking them in towards the end. Or, if you're Andy Katz, the beginning:

Spring Practice Tea Leaves

Spring practice continues and there's the usual mix of unwarranted excitement and unwarranted doomsaying; that combined with the incestuous nature of the whole enterprise makes information wobbly. But wobbly is better than nothing.
A rundown of scuttlebutt received in my inbox and published elsewhere:

Tate Forcier
The conflicts start hot and heavy with Forcier, who has articles like this written about him:

Unit By Unit, Defense 2008

A note before we start: this preview relies heavily on the defensive UFRs of last year, even more so than the offense did, because 1) there are actual returning players and 2) there's a convenient numerical system that does a decent job of summing up a defensive player's contributions.

Chewy sits down with Brandon Smith, the Fantasy Football Insider for Full of Sports, to talk about the best and worst picks for your upcoming fantasy drafts.

Brandon answers pressing questions such as:

1. Who is the top returning prospect and the top rookie prospect?
2. Who are the top three QBs, WRs, RBs, and DEFs?
3. Who should be the #1 overall pick? What position is the most important to fill first? What isn't as important?
4. What Cardinals player would you allow on your team?

All that plus potential surprises for the year and other sleepers to watch out for on the free agent list. Email Brandon with any questions you may have at bsmith@fullofsports.com.

See, Someone Wants to Play Ball in Ohio…

Jim Tressel's 2009 recruiting class is just about complete. About 7 months ahead of schedule.

Ohio State has early verbal commitments from 23 players. You can find the list here, or here, or even here. We certainly aren't breaking this news. The limit for any one season is 25 by the way. Which means that Ohio State can only offer 2 more scholarships between now and the February signing day. Sure, there is a chance that they could lose a few of these athletes before then. In fact ...

Offensive tackle Patchan picks Gators

Florida football coach Urban Meyer didn't receive any of his desired commitments during Saturday's two high school All American games, but the Gators did get a big offensive lineman with a Miami pedigree.

Seffner Armwood's 6-foot-7, 265-pound offensive tackle Matt Patchan, whose father (also named Matt) was a Hurricane standout from 1984-87, committed to UF over UM. And if the younger Patchan's athletic ability is near that of his father, who still owns one of the fastest 4...
