Monta Ellis gets $67M

Is this a good move? I'm torn. It's not that I don't believe he's worth those kinds of dollars, it's just that I'm doubting the Warriors will utilize him properly.I'm a huge Ellis fan, but I think the Warriors are making a mistake if they plan on building around him as a POINT GUARD. I'm hoping the W's are planning on developing newly-acquired Marcus Williams as their point man, because Ellis is not and will never be a lead guard in this league. Ellis is a ...

Disgruntled Warriors Keep A-Comin'

The Golden State Warriors got rid of one malcontent when they sent Al Harrington to the Sizable Apple last week. Apparently, Harrington wasn't alone in his sentiments about getting out of Oaktown.
The Boston Globe's Marc J. Spears reported Sunday that Marcus Williams may be next on Harrington's wagon. The point guard's agent claims he isn't actively seeking to get out of town, but he needs to have more opportunities on the floor.

Without knowing what goes on in prac...

Replacing Baron Davis an "impossible" job for Warriors

Warriors coach Don Nelson and executive vice president Chris Mullin held back-to-back chats with the press Thursday at team headquarters in Oakland. Much of the conversation centered on guard Monta Ellis, his severe ankle injury and the whole intrigue surrounding Moped-Gate as training camp nears.

No one knows for sure when Ellis will return or if he'll ever be the player he was before his two-wheeled accident in Mississippi and embarrassing attempts at a cover up. No one yet knows wha...

Befuddled By Tinsley-to-Warriors Rumor

A Daily Babble Production

That the Warriors are seeking a bit of point guard help is understandable. That's the sort of reality that occurs when a team's plan at point guard is to re-sign and convert its stud two guard and trade for an unproven youngster from a bad New Jersey team, and then the converted off-guard goes down with an injury.

But the Warriors would be well served to remember that Ellis' injury may have him back by late 2008, and Marcus Williams has the pot...

Livingston a Sensible Target For Warriors

A Daily Babble Production

The Warriors lost their franchise player this week when Monta Ellis went down with an ankle injury (http://www.nba.com/warriors/news/ellis_surgery_082708.html) that will sideline him for three-plus months.

They also lost a combo-turned-point guard, leaving them even thinner at a position where they were already lacking depth. With it looking like Marcus Williams will be at the helm for the present, we're returning to an idea we hinted at in brief (index...

Nets arena delayed again

Forest City Ratner Company, the organization responsible for building the New Jersey Nets new arena said Monday, that the team's new home in Brooklyn, may not be ready for the 2010-2011 season. It has been delayed several times, as recently as January. The arena will no longer feature a green roof, and the intial design will be very different.

Bruce Ratner owns the commercial real estate agency building the arena, and is also the principal owner of the Nets. He has owned the team for four seasons and plans to move the franchise to Brooklyn, which has not had a pro team since the Dodgers left in 1957. The Nets have been playing their home games at the Izod Center in the Meadowlands sports complex since 1981. The Nets drew an average of 15,656 fans per game which ranked 21st in the NBA last season. By moving to Brooklyn, Ratner hopes to draw more fans from NYC and Long Island. Located at the intersection of Atlantic and Flatbush avenue it is located by the MTA/LIRR rail yards.

The Barclays Center, which was planned to open for the 2010 season, would cost around $3.5 billion to build. The British based bank paid around $300-400 million dollars over 20 years for the naming rights. Seating capacity for Net games would be 18,000 with 118 executive suites and 12 courtside suites. The 850,000 square foot center could also hold college basketball games, concerts, award shows, ice shows and circuses. There was a discussion the Barclays Center could be venue for the 2013-2014 NBA All Star game.

President Rod Thorn and General Manager Kiki Vandeweghe have had a busy year. During the season, the management duo shipped Jason Kidd to the Dallas Mavericks, and this past off-season they traded fan favorite Richard Jefferson to the Milwuakee Bucks. Jefferson signed a six-year, $78 million dollar extension in 2004. The Nets also aquired a first round pick from the Golden State Warriors for backup point guard Marcus Williams. These moves were seemingly done to put themselves under the salary cap in the summer of 2010 to potentially make a run at superstar LeBron James. However, with the new arena delayed again, it will be interesting to see how this could affect his decision.

Propping Two Depth-Based Acquisitions Out West

A Daily Babble Production

Two Western Conference teams made their rotations one step deeper this past Tuesday.

One needed high-energy reserves however it could obtain them. The other was looking for help at a particular position and not only got that but a nice project player as well.

The Suns signed Warriors forward Matt Barnes to a one-year deal (http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/2008/07/22/20080722barnessuns.html), and the Warriors in turn sent a conditional futu...

Warriors acquire Marcus Williams

So far, Marcus Williams has been a bust. The former first-round pick (#22 overall) clearly hasn't panned out, as he's averaging just 6.4 points and 3.0 assists and shooting 38.9% from the field in his brief career. That didn't stop Golden State from trading a future first round pick for him.

From the NY Post blog....

" The trade will be announced later today.

The pick is lottery protected for 2011, so the Nets get it if the Warriors are in the playoffs. If it goes ...
