I think we can officially call the 2009 season of Atlanta Braves outfielder Matt Diaz a "breakout season." For all NL right-fielders with at least 100 plate appearances, Matt Diaz led the league in batting average and on-base percentage. He was behind six other players in slugging percentage in the NL, but he was behind only Adam LaRoche and David Ross i...

Talking Chop Round Table: Braves Catchers

As part of season reviews for major league players and top prospect ranking for minor league players, we here at Talking Chop thought it would be a fun idea to get all of our bloggers together with the help of Google Docs and debate the various aspects of each position in the Braves organization.
The participants are, yours truly (gondeee, indicated by MG), yondaime4 (indicated by MF), royhobbs (indicated by DH), and cbwilk (indicated by CBW).
I thought we'd have a few quick questio...

Off-Season Schedule at Talking Chop

If you thought there was nothing to talk about in the baseball off-season, then this must be your first year hanging out at Talking Chop. The off-season is generally one of the busiest times for baseball blogs, and this baseball blog in particular. We'll cover the hot stove league when it heats up, but before that gets going we will have a thorough review of the 2009 season with an eye towards looking ahead to 2010. The on-going season recap will also be interspersed with lots of pros...

Game 160 Recap: Nationals 6, Braves 3

Derek Lowe pretty much laid an egg in this game. For going down the stretch like such a lion, the Braves seem to be intent on closing out this season like a lamb. I tied one on at Le Flash last night, so I was not one of the dozens of people who watched this game.
There's not too much to say about this game, read here if you want a recap. Martin Prado had four hits, and David Ross had a big hit that put the Braves in front for a half inning. The middle of the Braves lineup was totall...

Orioles Take Series from Braves; The Mets Are Next...

The Baltimore Orioles got their second decisive win in as many days by whipping the Atlanta Braves, 11-2. Rookie pitcher Brad Bergesen continues to impress everyone as he pitched his first ever career complete game -- throwing 112 pitches, and allowing two runs (both off solo home runs by David Ross in the seventh and ninth innings). Crazy enough, the Orioles seem to pre-destined to lose on Sundays -- however, the win bucked a painful trend for a week or so. There can't be much more said ...

Reds trying to get a catcher

MLB Pro Blog:

The Rangers activated Gerald Laird off the disabled list on Saturday after he missed a month because of a pulled hamstring muscle. He made his first start on Sunday and continues to draw interest from both the Reds and the Yankees. The Rangers want top young pitching prospects in return and that's keeping any deal from getting done right now.

The word is that the Rangers are pretty much offering any of their catchers up for pitching not just Laird. I would be interested in pretty much any of them besides Laird because he's only marginally better than David Ross, who's marginally better than me.

Career numbers of the other catchers
Jarrod Saltalamacchia
Taylor Teagarden
Max Ramirez

Personally Taylor Teagarden would be the guy I would want. Although he has already been through a Tommy John surgery.
