MLN Newswire - www.mlntherawfeed.com-Both teams at Zephyr Field Monday afternoon had eight hits and one error, but it was the Nashville Sounds who made better use of their opportunities and went on the win 4-2. The loss was the fifth straight overall for the Zephyrs, it gave the Sounds a four-game series sweep, and has the Z's picking up a second straight series loss. The Z’s struck first with a run in the first inning, but Nashville tied the game in the third with a run of their own. In both the fourth and fifth innings the leadoff hitter for Nashville blasted a home run. First it was Joe Koshansky who went deep, and then Matt Gamel as the Sounds hit a total of five homers between Sunday and Monday’s games.Z’s starter Brett Sinkbeil picked up the loss as and is now 0-2 against the Sounds this season.
They'll stay in-house for the pen in 2009 ?

This isn't hindsight second guessing, I was screaming for the Mets to acquire a true set-up man all off season. I'll admit that some of the guys I suggested would have been just as bad as who we have but others would have really solidified this pen. My first idea would have been to over pay Francisco Cordero to set-up with the promise to close in 2010, then there was Dotel (4.04 ERA), Linebrink (2.57 ERA), Riske ( 5.31 ERA ) or Hawkins ( 4.25 ERA). Obviously Riske and Hawkins would ha...

Do the Mets still burn bridges in AAA

The Mets 38-year affiliation with the Norfolk Tide ended in 2007 and while it made business sense for the Tide to sign with a local team ( Orioles) it was also rumored that they were dissatisfied with the product the Mets were giving them to put on the field. Under Omar Minaya's regime, no longer were players like David Wright getting their final polishing in AAA. Omar and his staff are known for challenging their players which has basically meant that they go straight from AA to the majo...

Lugo DFA

Well it's now official, there seemed to be some confusion as to who was being designated to make room for the players the Mets wanted to call-up. Initially it was reported that Lugo was designated but then Willie Collazo was on the actual transaction list. Then it was reported that both Collazo and Lugo were designated but while Collazo was removed from the 40 man roster Lugo's name remained. But on today's transaction list Ruddy Lugo has been designated for assignment, the Mets n...

How room was made...call ups...

As expected the Mets recalled pitchers Ricardo Rincon, Carlos Muniz, Bobby Parnell, Jon Niese and Al Reyes, along with position players Ramon Martinez, Gustavo Molina and Argenis Reyes. They also decided to bring up pitcher Brandon Knight and activate Marlon Anderson from the DL. To make room for the players not already on the 40 man roster they moved Orlando Hernandez, Jason Vargas, Matt Wise and Trot Nixon to the 60 day DL. The only player's currently on the the 40 man roster, who aren&...

Another minor league pitcher wants to help....

Many have heard the names Jon Neise and Bobby Parnell as possible call ups in Sept., both are in AAA New Orleans and have had mixed results. Parnell was bombed in his last outing and has an ERA of 7.43 with a record of 1-2. Neise has had four two run outings including tonight and two four run outings, his ERA is 3.65 with a 4-1 record. John Maine and Mike Pelfrey may need at least one game off to rest their arms, if not more. The Mets will probably use Brian Stokes for one of those spot start...

It's all about the pen

The Mets have a playoff caliber rotation, solid defense and while the offense tends to drive you crazy when the injured return along with plugging in call up guys it's enough. But this bullpen now, as it's currently constructed it just not going to get it done in late Sept. and Oct. (if were there). Looking into the minors we don't have a stud waiting to dominate the majors, Muniz and Kunz were projected closers. At 27 y/o Muniz is starting to look like a flop and Kunz just isn&#...
