Butch Davis Watch 2009

And here I thought we were going to make it through this season without having to do this dance. As you probably know, Charlie Weis will soon be a consultant for some playoff bound NFL team(probably New England) and the self deluded folks in South Bend will be on the prowl for a new head coach. Naturally Butch Davis’ name is in the mix.

Butch Davis, North Carolina coach: Has pedigree from Miami days and winning with good defense in a so-so spot at North Carolina. Age (58), cancer scare in ‘07 have to be factors.

Let me go on record right now and say this is not going to happen. I just don’t see Butch Davis jumping into that mess given the academic restrictions and that fan base. No worries right? Well not so fast. The danger of Butch Davis potentially leaving is not with any of the job presently open but rather what happens when the dominoes start to fall. Last week when there was talk of Rich Rodriguez being done at Michigan my first thought was whether LSU might pursue Davis if Les Miles went to Michigan. This is the same deal. If Notre Dame hires Bob Stoops away from Oklahoma does Davis, with ties in the Texas and Arkansas(fertile recruiting ground for Oklahoma) become a prime candidate for that job? I would think so.

Bottom line. There is nothing to see right now but watch out once the coaching carousel gets moving.

Rodriguez And Personal Attention

A few days ago, Chris Brown of Smart Football posted an anonymous high school coach's negative opinion on Charlie Weis's recruiting mojo. It's interesting, if slightly preposterous from the Michigan fan's perspective. Weis spent his first three recruiting classes punching Lloyd Carr in the face, beating Michigan for large sections of his team en route to racking up the highly-rated recruiting classes that had Notre Dame fans making giddy little charts about how much they would...

Looks Like Charlie Weis and The Jimmy Are Gone without a Doubt

Much like Buckeyes fans who expressed support of Rich Rodriguez on Saturday, anti-Notre Dame fans will be sad to hear about the way things are ending for the Irish. Now 6-5 after losing to UConn, all signs point to the school firing Charlie Weis after the season ends. There couldn’t have been a [...]

December 17, 2007 was a huge day in the world of college football. Rich Rodriguez was hired as the University of Michigan Head Coach, replacing the retiring Lloyd Carr, and he was going to take the team to new heights with his new coaching philosophy. The University of Michigan was ecstatic and people were praising [...]

Legally Speaking, Now Is Time to Fire Rich Rodriguez

by Clay TravisFiled under: Michigan, CoachingFor the second consecutive season under coach Rich Rodriguez, Michigan will not be going to a bowl game.In two seasons, Rich Rod has racked up a 8-16 overall record, beaten down the Michigan fan base to such a degree that Ohio State scarlet and gray filled up many of the best seats in the Big House this past Saturday, and left my wife, a Michigan alum, refusing to watch their games on television. "I'm already over Rich Rod," she's...

Rodriguez's job at Michigan seems safe ... for now

It seems unlikely Michigan will fire Rich Rodriguez after two awful seasons with an NCAA investigation looming, a search for a new athletic director under way and luxury boxes to fill at the Big House.

One of the school's richest graduates, though, said Rodriguez better win more football games in 2010.

Initial Reactions, Post-Game Video

I am still working on/coming up with something more definitive to say about yesterday's game against tOSU. But until then...initial reactions:

• Rich Rodriguez did not throw 4 interceptions or fumble the ball in endzone. Tate Forcier did. Anyone who thinks Rodriguez should be fired is wrong. We had a gameplan to win this game. Rodriguez/Magee had a plan to move the ball against tOSU's defense...and it worked. We just made too many mistakes.

• The defense looked outstanding (firs...

A quick tour around heartfelt pre-OSU posts in the Wolverine blogosphere before they all expire:
WLA:
Like many things in life that end broken, this started with good intentions all around.
Rich Rodriguez watched from the sidelines while Michigan avenged Carr and desecrated the Tebow Temple. Chad Henne dropped redemption from the sky into the waiting hands of Adrian Arrington and Mario Manningham. Mike Hart fumbled and laughed and Michigan were The Victors.

Practice-Gate Lives On At Michigan, No Workout Logs Kept

With every passing day, things get even rougher for poor Rich Rodriguez. The man's heart is being ripped out of him on the field and off it. There's only so much crying a man can do. But the hits just keep coming. And the tears probably will keep shedding.

And to make matters worse, the practice-gate scandal that could ultimately cost him his job (if the on-the-field performance doesn't kill him) just won't go away.
