Red Wings-Blackhawks Game 3 quick take: take your anger and shove it into the net

I get it. The Hawks will look at the goalposts and at the waved-off goal by Andrew Shaw and insist, despite the penalty disparity, that they should still be playing the Red Wings, who managed to hang on and defeat them 3-1.

I get that the media will insist that Shaw was pushed into the crease by Jakub Kindl, and that it should at least be 2-2--Puck Daddy already has the play of course (they were silent on Saturday, all evening long), and that Patrick Kane's goal was "completely legal" because the breakaway pass-over-Quincey-and-Smith's head was sent to him after Johnny Oduya cleanly hit johan Franzen who was down, but hey, the rules demand that play continue if one of what Eddie Olczyk would deem one of Oduya's "pushes" (see: his "push" to Justin Abdelkader, using his stick) just happened to drop a guy (clip? Clip? Nope).

They can all go *#$%@& themselves. The refereeing was terrible on both sides, but the Hawks "got" the g...

Cotsonika offers a definitive profile of Red Wings coach Mike Babcock

Yahoo Sports' Nicholas J. Cotsonika wrote one helluva profile of Wings coach Mike Babcock, and like Babcock himself, it pulls no punches while leaning heavily upon the impressions Babcock has made upon Brendan Smith and Jakub Kindl:

The Wings made the playoffs for the 22nd consecutive season, winning their last four games to get in. They upset the second-seeded Ducks in the first round, coming back from 2-1 and 3-2 series deficits to win in seven games. They entered Monday night tangled in a 1-1 tie with the top-seeded Chicago Blackhawks, responding to a 4-1 loss with a 4-1 win.

“He’s one of the best coaches in the NHL for a reason,” said defenseman Jakub Kindl.

It’s not because he’s warm and fuzzy. It has been an open secret around the Wings that Babcock has clashed with players for years now, from the top to the bottom of the roster. He has clashed with management this season, too, about how certain players are used and the composition of the roster, often issuing...

Red Wings bounce back with 4-1 win over Blackhawks

CHICAGO (AP) -- Damien Brunner and Brendan Smith scored in the second period and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Chicago Blackhawks 4-1 Saturday in Game 2 to even their Western Conference semifinal series. It was a strong response by the Red Wings after Chicago handled them easily in the series opener, 4-1. Just as the Blackhawks did in Game 1, Detroit took control in the second period and put the game away in the third. Now, the Red Wings have a chance to take the lead when this series between Original Six rivals shifts to Detroit for Game 3 on Monday. Patrick Kane gave Chicago a 1-0 lead late in the first, but did things ever change after that. Brunner tied it when he deflected a wrist shot by Jakub Kindl early in the second, and Smith gave the Red Wings the lead when he scored off a feed from Henrik Zetterberg on a 3-on-1 late in the second. Johan Franzen made it 3-1 in the third when he fired a rising shot past Crawford after a perfect pass from Jonathan Ericsson in the Detroit zone. And Val

Young Red Wings keep growing up in these playoffs

This isn't the same Detroit Red Wings team that won four Stanley Cups from 1997-2008.

It isn't even the same team that started this lockout-shortened season.

When Nick Lidstrom and Tomas Holmstrom retired and Henrik Zetterberg assumed the captaincy, it was clear that the Wings would go through a transition period.

Unlike some other teams that went through very lean periods with no playoff appearances and got some high draft picks as a result, the Wings have made the playoffs 22 straight seasons.

Although Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk led the way in the Wings' 3-2 Game 7 victory over and elimination of the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday at Honda Center, they wouldn't be in this position without their young players.

Specifically, the development of their young players.

On defense, Jakub Kindl finally showed consistency, and Danny DeKeyser was a miracle when he signed as a free agent out of Western Michigan at the end of March.

It’s The New Red Wings

from Bob Duff of the Windsor Star,

For five Detroit Red Wings, Tuesday was a night they won’t forget.

Defencemen Danny DeKeyser, Brendan Smith and Jakub Kindl, as well as forwards Joakim Andersson and Damien Brunner, made their Stanley Cup debuts at the Honda Center in Game 1 of the Wings’ Western Conference quarter-final series against the Anaheim Ducks.

Backup goaltender Jonas Gustavsson and defenceman Brian Lashoff, a healthy scratch for Game 1, wait in the wings, so to speak, to make their Stanley Cup debuts.

It’s the largest quotient of newbies sent out by the Wings since they opened the 1990-91 playoffs at St. Louis, which, incidentally, was the first season of Detroit’s current 22-season run of consecutive playoff appearances.

Will Detroit’s Inexperienced Defense Be An Issue In The Playoffs?

from Bill Roose of DetrotRedWings.com,

Brendan Smith has no Stanley Cup playoff experience. The same goes for defensive partners Jakub Kindl andDanny DeKeyser.

Though their lack of postseason participation certainly sends a red flag to some, their inexperience isn’t much of a concern for the Red Wings on the eve of Game 1 of the Western Conference quarterfinals series against the Anaheim Ducks.

“We’ve really improved drastically in that area, probably the most improved part of our team,” coach Mike Babcock said. “With Howie playing the way he and the D able to get the puck going, we’re spending a lot less time in our zone. That allows you to be much better up front.”

Jakub Kindl scores a nice backhand goal on his own goalie

On the day that the Detroit Red Wings were celebrating Gordie Howe’s 85th birthday, the Wings came out completely flat against the Chicago Blackhawks. They were down 2-0 when this disastrous play happened. Red Wings defenseman Jakub Kindl got the puck in front of his own net and was trying to make a play to get the puck away from the net when he got stick-checked by Blackhawks forward Jimmy Hayes.
The goal was credited to Dave Bolland, and as much as I would like to think the stick check was the reason this happened, Kindl has to be stronger on his stick. I mean, he buried that puck right under the bar and a little tap on the stick shouldn’t make this happen. Welcome to the lowlight reels Mr. Kindl.

Kindl, Emmerton score in Wings shutout win

DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings have some excellent hockey players but they don't have a Steven Stamkos or a Sidney Crosby.

You don't get those players when you don't have the No. 1 overall pick in the NHL Entry Draft, which the Wings haven't had because they've made the playoffs 21 straight seasons.

Crosby and Stamkos currently lead the league in scoring.

The Wings have Henrik Zetterberg and Pavel Datsyuk, who are 12th and 15th in the league in scoring, respectively.

But the Wings have always been a better team when they've been able to get scoring from all of their lines, not just their top two, and from their defensemen.

Earlier in the season, the Wings needed Zetterberg, Datsyuk and Damien Brunner to do the scoring.

But Thursday night, the goals were coming from some unexpected sources.

Defenseman Jakub Kindl scored the first goal of the game in the second period, his second of the season.

Cory Emmerton, who had been buzzing about the offensive zone and was second in shot

Red Wings overnight report: on Kindl’s playing plans, all about insurance and coaching made tricky

I've been saying this for a while now, and I'm sticking to it: while a good third to 40% of the Red Wings' roster probably plans on playing overseas at some point during the lockout, the younger, more interchangeable and most importantly cheaper-to-insure are the only ones who will find gainful employment, at least with a Datsyukian KHL exception. Jakub Kindl kind of let it slip that he's heading over to play for Oclari Trinec of the Czech Extraliga on Twitter...

Amongst this afternoon’s Red Wings stories:

• Jakub Kindl may have been bumped from the Czech World Championship team, but as several Czech readers noted on Twitter, the Czech Ice Hockey Association’s website suggests that Kindl was the one who chose to decline the team’s invitation to play in the World Championships (something fishy’s going on, but my grasp of translated Czech isn’t nearly nuanced enough to figure out what’s up);

Wounded Wings lose Howard, Kindl

DETROIT -- Forget about trying to get healthy. For now, the Red Wings are merely trying to stop the bleeding.
Already missing defensemen Nick Lidstrom (ankle), Jonathan Ericsson (wrist), Pavel Datsyuk (knee) and Patrick Eaves (jaw, concussion), the Wings lost two more players againstthe Chicago Blackhawks Sunday afternoon.
Defenseman Jakub Kindl left the game in the first period because of an upper-body injury. The team announced he would not return to the game.
Then goaltender Jimmy Howard did not start the second period. Instead, Joey MacDonald was in net. The team said it was a lower-body injury.
