TUF Will Keep the UFC on Top

Because Strikeforce and Elite XC have made recent national TV deals, There has been a lot of discussion about the UFC losing their spot as top dog. I think Strikeforce and Elite XC have created some competition for the UFC, and competition is always good, but both are a long way from moving into the number one spot. The biggest reason, in my opinion, that the UFC will remain on top for years to come is the show The Ultimate Fighter. TUF doesn't just build up name recognition for one guy, but almost every fighter on the show. They get put on their first UFC card and everyone knows them and wants to see what they are going to do. How can Strikeforce and Elite XC compete with that? Strikeforce has been on NBC for a little over a month, and they've show Gilbert Melendez twice. It's obvious they are trying to make him their big name fighter. Elite XC has Kimbo and a bunch of guys they got form the UFC. It's a slow process to try and build up name recognition for a fighter, and make him a star. Unless you have a TV show like TUF.

Gilbert Melendez vs. Josh Thompson finally annouced

The Strikeforce 155 pound strap finally might change hands. Josh "the punk" Thompson is a bad mofo.

Thomson is on a six-fight win streak, finishing five of those fights inside the distance mostly with submissions. He stopped Adam Lynn with a technical knockout his last time out at Strikeforce: Playboy Mansion in September 2007.

Good luck Gilbert you'll need it.
