The Top 5 Fighters Who Could Challenge Brock Lesnar

Brock Lesnar's beatdown of Randy Couture sent shockwaves throughout the MMA world. Here was Lesnar, in just his fourth fight, dropping a legend straight on his back. It was obvious that no one in the UFC's heavyweight division will be challenging Lesnar for a while. Lesnar's combination of talent, size, athleticism and balls is too much for anyone, including Frank Mir, who beat him previously.

That said, taking into account that non-UFC fighters won't get to fight UFC fighters anytime soon, here are The Top 5 Fighters Who Could Challenge Brock Lesnar.

The UFC's heavyweight division sucks

Great heavyweights are hard to come by, and if I were Affliction, I would milk whatever I could out of banking on the talent they have with the heavyweights. Think back to the glory days of boxing's heavyweight division in the 1990's and early 2000's with Mike Tyson, Lennox Lewis and Evander Holyfield providing exciting fights for the fans. Or better yet, Fedor Emelianenko, Cro Cop and Minotauro going at it in Pride.

If Affliction manages to find a way to capitalize with its wealth of rare talent, watch out. The UFC will need to come up with an answer - fast.

Find out why UFC's heavyweight division is no match for Affliction's.

The specific appeals of boxing and MMA : The synergy that Affliction-Golden Boy must create

Most people reading this are likely to have read the news report that Affliction and Golden Boy are partnering up to co-promote MMA and boxing events on the same card. To summarize the news, it goes something like this :

( Golden Boy and Affliction will partner 50-50 on at least four pay-per-view shows next year that will include boxing matches and MMA fights on the same card.

As part of its deal with Golden Boy, Affliction will produce a line of event T-shirts for Golden Boy fights to sell at retail locations and at the fight. The first fight it will make shirts for is the Dec. 6 match between Golden Boy boss Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao. In addition, Affliction will become the official apparel licensee for Ring Magazine, which Golden Boy bought last year. It unveiled several sample T-shirts featuring old covers of Ring magazine, including ones of Sugar Ray Robinson. )

Because there is surprisingly small overlap between the boxing and MMA fanbase, putting boxing and MMA fights on the same PPV is an iffy proposition. If they in fact decide to go through with the initial plan, both Golden Boy and Affliction would have to identify the basic appeal factors of boxing, MMA, their promotional aspects and put together a well-presented show in order to build a profitable venture.

Here is the breakdown.
