Akiyama Scratched; Silva v. Bisping At UFC 110

This fight just got a whole lot more interesting.
Wanderlei Silva went from taking on a little known Japanese star to fighting Britain’s MMA poster boy in the span of a few short days.
From MMA Weekly:
Wanderlei Silva and Michael Bisping have verbally agreed to meet at UFC 110, MMAWeekly.com confirmed Tuesday evening with sources close to the fight.
The news was first reported Monday by Fighters Only.
UFC 110 is slated for Feb. 23 at Acer Arena in Sydney, Australia, though the event has yet to be confirmed by the promotion.
Until news of the match-up broke, Silva was originally expected headline the down under event with Yoshihiro Akiyama. The Japanese star’s fate is unknown at this time. Silva vs. Bisping is expected to be a co-main event.
Silva (32-10-1) last fought in January at UFC 93, losing a unanimous decision to Rich Franklin in a 195-pound catchweight fight. Silva disagreed with the call and said he would like to rematch the former middleweight champion down the line.
Following the fight, Silva underwent surgery to reduce scar tissue around his eyes and took the second half of 2009 off.
There are a ton of interesting story lines to talk about around this fight. Is Bisping completely back from his defeat at the hands of Dan Henderson? Will the knockout effect his chin long term? Speaking of chis, how will Wanderlei’s facial surgery effect his ability to take a punch? Will he have problems cutting down to his new weight class?
Most of all, Does Silva have anything left?
We’ll find out in Australia.

Verbal agreements have been secured from both men, according to a report from Fighters Only.

Reports: Michael Bisping vs Wanderlei Silva back on for UFC 110 in Sydney

Wanderlei Silva has apparently recovered from his recent facial surgery. Michael Bisping has apparently recovered from his devastating knockout loss at the hands of Dan Henderson. "The Axe Murderer" just needed a little time. "The Count" just needed a beatdown of Denis Kang at UFC 105.
What does all that mean?
Well for starters, it means that Wandy and the Brit are once again in talks to hook 'em up in a 185-pound brawl for the upcoming UFC 110 fight card...

UFC 105 Michael Bisping Ecko Walkout Shirt

The Brit is back.

As much as I want to put the video up here to remind everyone, I’ll contain myself as a congratulations to him.
Bisping is one of three MMA stars that is sponsored by mainstream magnate Mark Ecko. In fact, Ecko opened his own Ecko MMA brand that is behind Bisping, Frank Mir, and Miguel Angel Torres.

It doesn’t look Bisping-specfic; if it did you would imagine it would have a English flag on it somewhere. However, if you are looking for a more toned down MMA shirt that no one would even know was a fight shirt. This is the one for you.

MMA Warehouse has it for just 27.99.

Dear Spider: Michael Bisping wants to be the first Brit to win a UFC title

 Props: Manchester Evening News
Quoteworthy:

"I want to be the champ one day and my goal is to become the first Brit to win a UFC title. It was crucial to win because I have had a lot of criticism. I wanted to get out there and have a big win against him. I have worked too hard and my team have worked too hard for me not to succeed. I have bounced back right away. I have never been that nervous before a fight. I lost my last fight badly. Because of that, I had been really nasty ...

By Jacob Camargo November 16, 2009"To say I'm happy would be an understatement. The pressure I felt since my last fight was just unbelievable. Obviously, I have a family I have to provide for, so a few losses in the UFC and your out. This is my passion, this is my dream. So I was very worried coming into this fight because he is a tough opponent. But I want to beat people like that, otherwise I don't belong here.
Michael Bisping scores huge comeback win over Denis Kang

At UFC 100, Michael Bisping was fed a dose of humble pie by Dan Henderson. On a huge international stage, the brash Brit, who said Hendo had no finishing power, was knocked out cold. For the last five months, he had to deal with the snickering and comments that he was overrated. Bisping brought some serious rage to the cage and Denis Kang was the unfortunate recipient of a beating at UFC 105. Kang, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt, controlled the first round with decent ground work but then ...

Denis Kang vs Michael Bisping -The only reason I'm taking Bisping is because I cannot stand Denis Kang fans.
Bisping interview Part 2: The Brit isn't happy with some U.K. media treatment

During his road to 17-1 start to his carrer, Michael Bisping was the darling of the British media. Much of that changed after he suffered a vicious knockout at the hands of Dan Henderson at UFC 100. Hendo put Bisping to sleep on his feet. All of sudden, the golden child became the golden punching bag in the U.K. The Sun in particular really mocked Bisping, photoshopping his KO'd headshot in a variety of scenarios. Bisping told Cagewriter at first he wasn't too upset. "When I saw...

It hasn't been an easy five months for Michael Bisping. The British middleweight, once the toast of the town, is still dealing with his first career loss, a brutal knockout at the hands of Dan Henderson. Adding insult to injury, because of his coaching appearance on season of nine of "The Ultimate Fighter," he may now be amongst the five most disliked fighters in MMA. And on top of that he's got other fighters snitching on his late night habits. Rashad Evans told Cagewriter ...
