The Reeducation of Phil Baroni

Fighters often promise to do "whatever I've got to do" following a tough loss, but they usually just return their same old self. Not Phil Baroni. In the last four months, he has actually stayed true to his word and reinvented himself.

America's MMA Preview Should Have Been the WEC

What would everyone be saying today if the first ever nationally televised MMA event would have been the WEC? Would everyone be praising it as a huge success and a defining moment in the rise of MMA? Yea, I think so. Instead we got the EliteXC joke put on by CBS. Don't forget that CBS had final say in all aspect of the broadcast. That's one reason why you haven't seen the UFC or WEC on national TV. True MMA fans can watch the CBS debacle and know what is going down. What about the viewers that were tuning in to watch their first ever MMA event? I wonder what they're thinking today? WWE...WWE....WWE....WWE....WWE...WWE....that's what they're thinking. Why wouldn't they? Pyro entrances, dancing strippers, Phil Baroni making a fool of himself, bad officiating, fighters not making weight, Kimbo Slice.

One of the things I've always liked about MMA events is the constant fights. Within five minutes of the WEC broadcast there was a fight. It took 30 minutes for EliteCBS to show their first bout. I also love they way the fighters enter the cage through the crowd on WEC/UFC. I don't need the pyro and dancing strippers and Baroni getting his shirt torn off. That is stupid. MMA sells it's self and doesn't need the flash. What about the quality of fights? Not even close, WEC wins this one hands down. Miguel Torres Vs. Yoshiro Maeda was an instant classic and a better fight with a better ending than Robbie Lawler Vs. Scott Smith. The main event between Urijah Faber Vs. Jens Pulver was more than just a legit main event. It was a battle between one of the pound for pound top fighters in the world in Faber and the first ever lightweight UFC champion Pulver. I wish Pulver would have let his hands go a little bit more, but otherwise it was a very entertaining five round battle. It's to bad the nation didn't get to witness true MMA and not EliteCBS.

EliteXC Heavyweight Champion Antonio Silva Tests Positive for Steroids

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_8sapMW_W6ok/SK2sNpNKYbI/AAAAAAAAAl4/iIb0CoQlmMc/s320/antonio-silva-elitexc.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5237031292101091762" />
Juicing Alert, www.f4wonline.com has the scoop.

Antonio Silva Jr., the current EliteXC Heavyweight Champion, tested positive for Boldenone. He has been suspended for one year and fined $2,500.

Here's what wikipedia has to say about this particular steroid.

Boldenone (1,4-androstadiene-3-one-17?-ol, available as the undecylenate ester), also known under the trade names Equipoise, Ganabol, Equigan and Ultragan, is an anabolic steroid developed for veterinary use, mostly for treatment of horses. It is not indicated for use in humans in the US and is only available through veterinary clinics.

Apparently this is the most popular steroid among MMA fighters. From Wikipedia.

Stephan Bonnar and Josh Barnett, mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from the UFC and PRIDE Fighting Championships, have also tested positive for the banned substance.[1] After the World Extreme Cagefighting show on January 20, 2006 Muay Thai turned MMA fighter Kit Cope also tested positive for Boldenone.[2]Following the Strikeforce card on June 22, 2007 former PRIDE and UFC fighter Phil Baroni tested positive for Boldenone, as well as Stanozolol.[3] Most recently, at a K-1 WGP event in Las Vegas on August 17, 2007 two fighters, Rickard Nordstrand and Zabit Samedov, both tested positive for Boldenone.[4] Alexandre Franca Nogueira (Pictures) has tested positive for the anabolic steroid Boldenone, the California State Athletic Commission said Monday in a statement, on July 7, 2008.

From the Affliction show Edwin Dewees was busted for Nandrolone.
Ultimate MMA News and Articles for your reading pleasure.
