Warriors 87, Kings 83

Klay Thompson made the go-ahead 3-pointer with 7.5 seconds remaining and finished with 20 points to lead the Golden State Warriors past the Sacramento Kings, 87-83 on Wednesday night.

Thompson then forced Tyreke Evans into an errant layup on the final possession to seal a sloppy win for the Warriors over the Western Conference's worst team. After dropping the first two in Sacramento this season, Golden State overcame 18 turnovers and 36 percent shooting against its Northern California rival.

David Lee had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and rookie Harrison Barnes added 14 points for the Warriors, who are 2-0 since a four-game losing streak. They held the Kings to 40 percent shooting and forced 15 turnovers.

Jason Thompson had 17 points and eight rebounds, and Patrick Patterson added 15 points for Sacramento, which has lost 11 of its last 13 games. DeMarcus Cousins had five points and four rebounds and sat out the entire fourth quarter.

The long-range shot bailed out the Warriors again.

POTD 2/9/13: Jason Thompson on Derrick Favors

It was a perfect storm at Arco Arena on Saturday night when the Utah Jazz, a horrible road team, rolled into Sacramento for their fourth game in three nights. There, they encountered not only the Kings, but 16,193 energetic fans who’d come out as part of a special initiative to show support for the struggling team. It was essentially a protest against the proposed sale of the Kings to a group from Seattle, where they would move to become the Sonics. Various chants and cheers consumed the building from the game’s beginning to its end, creating an atmosphere that was truly inspiring. The Kings, as troubled a group as they are, were able to feed off of the electricity and put together one hell of an offensive effort. The key to the 120-point onslaught was their aggressive transition play, demonstrated here by Marcus Thornton and Jason Thompson:

As you can see, this particular sequence came during the latter part of the second half, at which point the Kings were essentially demora...

Kings center Jason Thompson hung out with Karate Kid star William Zabka, did not get his leg swept

Actor William Zabka—best known for playing Johnny Lawrence, Ralph Macchio’s character Daniel LaRusso’s arch-nemesis in the 1984 classic The Karate Kid—was pretty awesome in the 1980s. Well, in 2012 he’s still very awesome, and not just because he follows this site on Twitter (you can look it up), but because he’s still wildly popular, so much so that Kings forward/center Jason Thompson hung out with the actor before Sunday’s game against the Trail Blazers and tweeted excitedly about the encounter.
I’m the New Karate Kid!! Lol “@sactownroyalty: Exclusive: @jtthekid is telling Johnny to sweep the leg!!! twitter.com/sactownroyalty…”
— Jason Thompson (@jtthekid) December 24, 2012

You have to appreciate the fact that Zabka, unlike a lot of other actors, hasn’t tried to distance himself from his Johnny Lawrence character (part of his Twitter bio awesomely reads: Took 2nd place at the ’84 All Valley Karate Tournament), instead embracing his continued popularity as of one of the ’80s

After the Sacramento Kings victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday night, Kings forward Jason Thompson got a chance to hang out with actor William Zabka. For those of you who don't remember Zabka, he was Johnny Lawrence in the famous 1980's flick "The Karate Kid".Lawrence was the villain to Ralph Macchio's Daniel LaRusso in the movie and below is photo of him with the Sacramento big man courtesy of Thompson's Twitter account:

Jason Thompson gets it, and getting it is why JT got a 5 year deal

Read the title. I literally mean what I wrote there and wrote it that way intentionally: Jason Thompson gets why he got a 5 year contract. Check out these quotes from JT from Saturday's Bee:
"Some guys are going to have to play different roles," said Thompson, the Kings' first-round draft pick in 2008. "Some guys can score a lot, and that's what they're known to do, but maybe if they can take some steps back in scoring and get more assists, rebounds and diving for loose balls, it makes a great team."

Somebody had to say it. The way Tyreke Evans and DeMarcus Cousins play is not condusive to winning NBA basketball. Dribble driving your way into multiple defenders in the lane is not efficient or effective basketball in the NBA. The sooner those two learn that, the sooner things will get easier for the rest of the Kings.
I've said it before but I'll say it again: The Kings, like all NBA teams, go as their best players go. The Kings b...

Matt Moore of CBS Sports breaks down the schedule. Here is a handy breakdown of rest days for each team for the East and West.
Ken Berger's thoughts on on other NBA thingys going on. Read his piece with Mark Cuban if you have not. It's terrific.
Mark Deeks of Sham Sports recently put out a GIF that showed every luxury tax amount a team has paid. As you might expect if you follow these things, the New York Knicks and Dallas Mavericks lead the way by a very large margin. (What's strange is that the Knicks would have paid more tax if Allan Houston had been on the books for the remainder of his contract, and if they had not amnesty'd Jerome Williams. The Mavericks amnesty'd Michael Finley and the remaining 51 million on his books. Yikes!) There is also a quiz from Deeks on whether or not you know the 7 teams that have not paid the tax. I bet there are a few te...

Kings extend qualifying offer to F Jason Thompson

The Sacramento Kings have extended a qualifying offer to Jason Thompson to make the forward a restricted free agent.

Kings President of Basketball Operations Geoff Petrie officially announced the long-expected move Monday. The tender allows Sacramento to match any offer Thompson receives when free agency begins July 1.

Thompson averaged 9.1 points, 6.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists playing mostly off the bench last season. He was selected by the Kings with the 12th overall pick in the 2008 draft.

Sacramento owns the fifth overall pick in Thursday night's draft.
