The Effects of Pitching Behind the Padres Terrible Offense

Josh Bard Raised his average tonight to .369! I think I just vomited in my mouth. The grossest offensive lineup of 2005 got quite a bit grosser this year. Hitting .369 over 106 AB's, Bard is batting 79 points higher than the next best AVG in the lineup (Brian Giles). Tonight the Pads started six players who are hitting .259 or under.

Mike Cameron .243
Ben Johnson .256
Mike Piazza .259
Khail Greene .220
vinny Castilla .236
Josh Barfield .259

I have no idea how this team scores runs, but any team starting two catchers, neither of which are any good, is in some serious trouble. While I hope most of these players aren't on fantasy rosters, they do have an effect on your fantasy season. Wins are extremely hard to come by for SD starters. Chris Young leads the team with 6 and is probably lucky to have that. Jake Peavy has only 4 Wins in 2006. While the lack of offense decreases the value of their starters, RP's in San Diego get quite a boost. The Padres three top setup men have accounted for 10 of the teams 38 wins thus far. They're also pitching very well while amassing a large number of innings.

Brian Sweeney - 2.23 ERA, 2 W, 36.1 IP, 12 K
Scott Cassidy - 2.38 ERA, 4 W, 34 IP, 37 K
Scott Linebrink - 2.67 ERA, 4 W, 33.2 IP, 32

Pitching in Petco is already an added bonus, doing it with one of the worst offenses in baseball is icing on the cake. It's a beautiful thing when good RP's find themselves in positions to post Wins on a regular basis. Adding one of these guys to your team can definitely help a fantasy squad.
