In recent weeks the name of Mark Teahen has become more and more prevalent in the Cubs' rumor mill. The Cubs have publicly stated their desire to add speed and athleticism to a lineup that their manager says is too right-handed. The Cubs appear interested in Mark Teahen, but at what cost?

Royals Target Marshall, Fontenot?

According to Phil Rogers, the Royals are targeting Sean Marshall and Mike Fontenot in a trade involving Mark Teahen. I would be very surprised to see the Cubs trade either of their rising stars, who could have a serious impact on the 2009 Cubs. Aside from being a lefty, Teahen really doesn't bring much to the table for the Cubs. They would be better off moving DeRosa to right field and starting Fontenot at second base, saving their money for a big move.

The Cubs would probably be willing to give up Randy Wells or Ronny Cedeno in a deal, or maybe even Jake Fox. The Cubs have interest in Bobby Abreu and Raul Ibanez, but may not be willing to give them the money they want.A

That's great, I'm focused on solving world peace after I cure cancer, which will all happen after I retire at age 35 because the charming widow across the street is really the heir to the Buffett family fortune and appreciates when I roll her garbage can up her driveway on Tuesdays.

The big news today is the Royals have traded relief pitcher Ramon Ramirez to the Red Sox for center fielder Coco Crisp. There is speculation this is only first of several trades GM Dayton Moore will make this off season. Mark Teahen could soon move to the north side of Chicago and will be playing for Lou Piniella and the Cubs in 2009. As of now this is only a rumor. But as a result of the trades for Mike Jacobs and Coco Crisp the Royals 2009 lineup is better than the one the club fielded in 2008..........

According to MLB.com, the Red Sox have traded Coco Crisp to the Royals for pitcher Ramon Ramirez. The Red Sox have been trying to deal Crisp for nearly two seasons now, and land a solid reliever in return. Crisp hit .283 in 118 games for the Red Sox, with 7 HR and 41 RBIs while Ramirez went 3-2 with a 2.64 ERA in 71 games. At this point, the Royals do not have room for him, so they might need to trade David DeJesus or Mark Teahen, both of whom are drawing interest on the market.

The latest article from Phil Rogers also discusses the Cubs interest in Mark Teahen. I still can't fathom why the Cubs would be interested in a player with a 98 and 91 OPS+ the last two years. Rogers suggests that Felix Pie for Teahen would get the deal done or Mike Fontenot and Ronny Cedeno. I suggest that the Phil Rogers finds a new profession and the Cubs actually acquire someone who might help the team.

The Kansas City Star says the Cubs are making a play for Mark Teahen. This on the heels of a radio report that the Cubs are very interested in Milton Bradley. The KC Star article also says the Cubs have interest in Raul Ibanez, but his cost may be prohibitive.

The Cubs would prefer David DeJesus according to the article, but he seems unavailable as the Royals want to move him to left field and acquire a new center fielder. Teahen though might be attainable. The names thrown out by the author are Felix Pie, Mike Fontenot and Ronny Cedeno.
